Well to sum up my swap and tuning:

~Vortec heads rebuilt, placed on an '89 4.3L TBI
~Lots of odds and ends.
~New fuel line because with the 4bbl/TBI adapter it kinks the feed line too much.
~Fought cross plug wires for a week. :banghead:
~8062ECM died
~Installed 7747 ECM
~Made fuel pressure regulator adjustable, only got 8psi out of it.
~Checked pressure in driveway, reved engine, dropped to 4psi (No wonder it was gutless with the old heads)
~New TPI Fuel Pump. 12psi all the time! WOOT
~After AE runs out, I'm lean. Tip in, AFR hits 12:1, then leans out. 15-16 sometimes 17:1 and pops. If I add more AE, its too rich on tip in and bogs. BLMS are 130-140 in the 50+KPA cells.
~My VE1 Table is as high as it can go in the high map. VE2 is at like 40. I should be getting much more fuel.
~Rig is gutless uphill, hits 100KPA without being in power enrichment (set at 45), and goes lean.
~Bought 5.7L injectors from ebay $30. Had them flowed and cleaned $50. Set my BPWC to 135 instead of stock 181. SUPER lean. Set it to 190 and it runs the same as before. $80 spend on the same injectors. That guy is getting bad feedback.
~Injectors/pressure can't be too small/low because WOT I get 12.3:1 The whole time up to around 5200 when it's shifted.
~Now planning a quadjet, 229dizzy, and AFRP. I'm done. This has been a nightmare.
~All AFR raedings done with a wide band. Cruise and Idle reads 14.7 in closed loop, so the Narrow band O2 seems to be doing it's job.
~Spark is factory, also tried a vortec timing table, and taking timing out, and advancing.... didn't make any improvements really. Map seems to read like it should. Even if it's reading a false low vacuum (high kpa reading) it should be adding a BUNCH of fuel, and the WB says I'm lean, and I lean backfire through the TBI....

Anyone have ideas?

Hmm... 32k for a newer used GTO '06..... only 245/mo for insurance...... OOh look!

Strip the guts of your TBI out, drill/tap injector bungs in the manifold and run a multiport setup Smile

I've thought about it... not as easily done as said... but thought about it. I actually still have a 165 computer somewhere. Worked in Alloy's car last time.

But I've never thought about doing that to the TBI unit itself. That's a HELL of an idea......... $400 to have the intake bunged.

Think it's just repinning of the ECM to swap there so no big deal... Plus I'd need some 305 injectors... easy enough to come by.

I have an old set out of the 305 that came out of the kids 305 tpi setup.
I will give them to you! If you want them, and will use them. send me a pm if you want them
I will have to check to see if the ohm reading are good, if they are you could have them cleaned and use them. I bet I have some new o-rings as well.
I could mail them to you or wait and see if I go to the dyno and give them to you there.
I went to 24lbrs for the 350.
what do you thing?

Paul,

I don't know that it is the TBI's fault. You know how easy mine is to tune, you shouldn't be any harder. I am thinking there is something else going on that we are missing.

I don't have the money for the ecm or manifold to be setup properly just yet. But thanks though!

Yeah we could be missing something, but what?

I get enough fuel WOT. Intake is torqued right, idles fine at 35-40kpa neutral, 50kpa in gear. Can't find evidence of a vacuum leak. I was thinking of trying a 305 bin. Changing the cylinders and the BPWC.

I can e-mail you any of my bins if you need them. I have a bit more cam though, maybe my timing tables and basic fuel will get you off on the right foot.

I think I'll start with a truck 305 bin. Since the 305 stock should be around my same power with the 4.3L. I'm not sure how the computer reads things differently or if it does at all 8756 vs 7747 so I'll stick with a 7747 bin and rule out that possible error. Thanks though. Still need to pull your bin and take a look at spark Wink

Eh, we need to fix an ALDL cable also. Before my car warmed up this morning, I could smell the unburt fuel, it is bleeding rich.

But if it's not warmed up, it's in open loop Wink

which means my tables are rich, once it warms up and I can get fuel trim infor, I can adjust the open-loop tables. BUT, you already knew that.

But you could be 128 idle warmed up.... and still be pig rich "warming" up. Open Loop AFR tables are your friend Laughing
