I was driving home late last night and came to a stop sign at a 4-way stop out her in the boonies. I mashed it through first and when I poped it in second heard a GRGRGZZZZZKKKKrrrrrck. Man I almost pooped myself...

Ripped it apart. Shitty... And it was a pain in the ass to tow because of it being so freaking low. Shitty-ass welding...

This is because I said I was going to the dyno. I know it was. Laughing

lmao, i was just going to say.... must be dyno time of year... Ian broke something in the driveline.

Good news... you have a new clutch, and will have a new driveshaft at dyno....

bad news... that means your ring/pinion, or axle, is bound to break on the dyno. Wink

LMAO! I had things like that happen.

Who pulls rocker studs 3000miles after being on the engine?! LOL Right before cows I do.

Never seen a driveline do that! Time for some al-lew-min-e-um

The dyno curse strikes again!

Sucks man, but it's motivation to get that aluminum driveshaft! You can get 'em for like 100 bucks plus shipping (25 usually) pretty frequently. 100 bucks shipped if you get lucky.

Check out www.camaroz28.com, guys over there are parting out 4th gens all the time. I think I heard that the 4th gen aluminum driveshafts are stronger than the 1LE driveshafts (the 1LE being 2 1/2 inches around and the 4th gen being 3" around).

Get the LS1 driveline... It has an elastimere band next to the yolk. Stronger than the LT1 versions.

I know it's dirty guys, but that IS an all-um-numiumiumium driveline! Laughing

I'd go for an aftermarket driveline or even an LS1 style larger diamter stock one but this is my daily and I have to work tommorrow. Sad I'm taking it up to northwest drivelines today to see what they can do for me.

I seem to start the breakdown of thirdgens each year around dyno time so you guys better start checking bolts, checking fluids, diffs, etc. Someone's next! Shocked

Dude... let me just say..... that aluminum driveline repairs aren't cheap. You're looking at $60 for a balance job after they weld it.. if they intent to use the same tube. There are only a few places that will work on aluminum drivelines (welding wise.)

Your best bet is to get out to a junk yard and get a steel one for $20 and be nice to it until you get a new aluminum or yours repaired.

To get mine lengthened by 1".. it was going to cost over $350 before having it rebalanced.

Laughing Well for quite awhile My exhaust ended halfway down the driveshaft..as it's plainly visible.

And Dew, yeah, it broke at the front. First thing I think of when I looked under the car was Holy poop! I could've been superman!

The d-shaft was $100 to make before so I've got no problems taking it up to Northwest drivelines to have them repair it. From what I see their welds didn't penetrate enough or something. I'm quite confedent in their abilities. Everyone f***s up sometimes and I've heard good things about them for years. They did the d-shaft on my dads 'velle too.

I think it's time for a safety loop. Anyone know of any good ones?

Actually I had a front and rear loop. I had the Spohn 700r4 crossmember with built in loop (actually sitting in my garage) and when I bought the Spohn Torque Arm I had the rear loop option added.

Me and Paully were going to hack the loop off the old crossmember and weld it to the TKO crossmember but we have never got around to doing it. It did pass tech at the strip but probably shouldn't have technically.

Check out Summit. I think Lakewood makes a bolt in loop (bolts to the floor IIRC) for about $35. If you have access to a welder you could fab one. I think Paul posted pics of the one that he welded up.

Oh, and don't give up. The dyno curse chased me for 4 years before I made it throught without incident :knocking on wood: (hehe, i said wood). The first time I met any of these guys and started hanging out was the first annual dyno gathering where my tranny died. I guess some good came out of it.

-Schultzy

Update: Actual there are several options on Summit. Summit brand $24.50, lakewood $26.88. Search on 'driveshaft loop'. BTW, I am currently running the Inland Empire Aluminum shaft with 1350 yokes. So far so good Thumbs up

I think his car is still on jack stands wolfy. That reminds me of a guy which i know since grade school he's kinda a BSer and telling everyone at a bars about his imaginary "hot rod" which usually occur when he gets his new Jegs or Summit catalog in the mail. Its funny he's brothers throw away those catalogs before he gets to read them. LOL. The moral of this story is. The first BSer dosen't stand a chance in here someone else will have a better story.
