1. After the transplant to the built 350, the tach is off, is not right,
Its seems to show way more rpms. its worse with the higher the revs go.
Bad ground under the hood some where??? or do I have to change some module for the old 305 to a 350 to get it to be correct?????

2. The fuel gage shows 1/2 tank when empty other than that its ok.
bad ground???

3. Most all gages peg to the positive when I start the car, then drop off to what looks correct, volts, temp .
what do you think??

Maybe several different problems??

4. Also I ran the gas tank dry tonight oopps , I noticed the fuel pump was making funny noises.
I opened the gas cap and hot fumes came out, felt that tank and it was really hot as well.
I kept putting the gas cap back on and taking it off and still hot fumes still coming out, kind of scary.
How about this one any ideas? Bad ground? hot fuel pump??? hot wires? I did notice the muffler is about an inch way from the bottom of the tank. Man I don't like that either.

5. also put a timing light on the car and set it at 6deg with timeing wire diconected. I hooked wire back up and its at about 30 deg advanced, I have a light with a advance feature. does this sound correct???

Yeah, with the wire disconnect, and the SA set at about 6*, 20-25 advanced once the you have hooked the computer back up, is about normal.

The tach's in these cars are notorius for being way off... (example in picture at the bottom. Wink

)

The fuel in the tank is what cools the fuel pump. So if you ran it dry, yes things can get hot. Pumps don't last as long if you constantly run with 1/4 tank or less.

Tach's work the same for 305/350 so there is some other problem. You may be on the right track with grounds. Anytime you have really weird electrical problems start looking for bad ground connections. Since you just did the motor i'd be looking at the grounds that hook to the back of the heads and sometimes there are some at the thermostat housing. The ones behind the motor are easily missed because its so hard to see back there.

The problem with the gauges pegging and dropping to normal... is this new? Some vehicles just do that. But i've never paid attention to mine to know if my bird does or not.

No not a new problem, at least since we got it running, we towed it home when we bought it so don't know if it did it before.
I will go through the grounds back there when it stops raining.

I don't have a heat shield between the muffler and fuel tank.
Do I need one?
where do I get one???
do you all have them on or are they missing?

I would definatly have a heat shield there. the cars all had them stock.

I had that problem. make sure to hook up all your ground wires that was attached to the block to body (firewall to back of head).

Yep I will go check those grounds
Also I could only get 10 gal of gas in the tank, I thought it was bone dry.
10 gal?? doesn't see like to much,
