So Ive always just worked in the garage in my old stained clothes and t-shirts. But the 2 pairs of jeans I have now are so ragged, I might as well work naked.
So besides overalls since its about to be summer time(wait tell fall to get some of them). Any other suggestions? Or anyone know of a cheap pair of jeans that will hold up? Maybe some that have extra knee patches since that seems to be my main area of problem. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

If I have the option I usually wear my dickies which have double layered knees, or a pair of carharts, they're spendy but they hold up for months for me in a marine industrial enviroment so they would probably be great for the garage _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

goodwill does not carry my pants size. I shop there for my shirts though.
Does dickies have just pants? I know them as overalls. |

I just cycle my good clothes into shop clothes as they wear out.
Jean definitely. I even wear jeans at work. Personally I'm not a coveralls kinda guy. They never seem to fit me. I look like a flying wombat or a camel toe. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I have the same problem that Paul has, and also recycle good clothes as they wear out. Coveralls just aren't comfortable, and they were the preferred underway uniform in the Navy. I never had a pair that fit well. If they were long enough, they were way too big through the body. If they fit through the body, it was wedgie time every time I bent over _________________ 92 Camaro

I usually do coveralls, sometimes you can find used pairs at army/navy stores or local parts (non-corporate....if they even exist anymore) stores.
I also find old Wranglers hold up pretty well. Thrift stores work, but around here, sometimes you're fighting the "hipsters". |

I also do as Paul, though at work I'm required to wear coveralls. After 20 years i'm used to them. But wearing them at home makes it seem like i'm at work again.. so jeans only!
My issue now though is that i've always worn levi 501s and now they don't seem to fit or last long enough. Tried a different levi last time but they require a belt or fall off. Can't fit in the next size down either.
Thought about wranglers. Target sells them for $13 a pair. Much cheaper then the $55-60 for the levis. Just haven't liked the fit of them either. |

| Yea, I normally cycle clothes too. But my current pairs of good are still perfectly fine. But my shop ones are worn way to thin. |

Hey now the poop suits are a luxury among the yard birds lol they love em, like I said carharts have a pricey tag but they last me months of crawling through rusted submarines, the only thing that will kill a pair is either battery acid or a good crotch blowout but if you get the right size its a non issue, dickies do have pants, it was a requirnent at cartoys to wear them because they're durable but they have no metal buttons like jeans so you don't end up scratching a car, I think I paid about the same price as a pair of jeans so around 20ish bucks for a pair, they've got work pants with double knees, cargo pocket style, classic dickies with a single knee there's a ton now lol again, watch out for the crotch rippers, I normally only do it in the summer time when my legs sweat a bit more so when I would crouch down the pants would be stuck to my legs then any movement left or right with either leg would be the recipe for disaster, next thing I know I've got a nice breeze out of nowhere lol beyond that I still have like 4 pairs from my 2 years working there, in the garage they would last a very long time _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

So it looks like Dickies only has one pair in my size, and doesnt look like "work ones". Assuming pants sizes are same as levis.
Carhart you cant quickly search by size, so having to pick thru each style |

For years I wore Wrangler jeans because I was a cheap asshole, and any that weren't nice enough for work got cycled out to shop duty. They do hold up a long time but you need to buy a larger size than you are and buy the loose fit ones so they will actually fit you properly.
After a few years as a carpenter I am sold on Carhartt dungarees. I wear the black pairs in the shop so they don't stain and I can still use them for work. Thermals are whatever is on the shelf at Fred Meyer and tee shirts are Carhartt or the Goodwill special, always a dark color to avoid stains. |

I ran some Dickies when I worked in the hotrod shop. Black was the attire. They were decent and I still wear them. They don't, however, hold up well to welding spatter. Everything else they were pretty awesome. I've got two standard pairs and one with the double knee. The double knee of the same size ran a little short in length, so buy a longer one.
I almost forgot about these. Great bang for the buck if you watch and get them at fred meyer when they do their BOGO sale. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Dickies dark blues both shirts and pants are the attire at the shop here. They hold up well but I second the welding splatter! I have about a week and a half worth of pants and shirts and have wore them for a couple of years now and just now I am needing to replace a few pairs of the pants. They hold up well and are a good price! _________________

+1 to Paul's welding slag comment, same goes for solder they melt fairly quick. IIRC dickies sizes are their own deal, as with carharts _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

So what would be good for welding? I just realized that I should probably get some more durable clothes now that I'm working at a new shop. Previously my uniform was supplied by my dealership. They used Unifirst, which sucked. Too thin to be durable, didn't breathe well at all in the heat and couldn't keep you warm in the winter. I have some flannel lined Carhartt Jeans. Those are nice and thick and very durable. But they're blue, I need black pants. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

Carhart makes black pants like or dickies, that's what I had to wear. As for welding...Idk.... I think a good rule of thumb is keep the minimal amount of slag possible? Lol shipyard welders normally wear their carharts and normal clothes with their gloves and hood, I've never really thought about what can resist molten metal produced from a controlled arc blast ahh low sleep is killing me lately _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

So no local place had my size. So I did an online order, got them in last night.
Orded the double front ones. They are heavy as all get out. Waist fits perfect, legs are quite long. Wondering if these come pre-shrunk or not. will find out soon. Did great for the first night. |
