Paul was kind enough this weekend to help me out with my subframe connectors and a custom Y-pipe to go from the LS1 manifolds to the MagnaFlow catback. We only set the car on fire once.

Awesome Y-pipe.

The exhaust has great clearance. Most of the way back, the T56 is lower than the exhaust. Subframe connectors are also installed. I can't wait to see how much difference those make.

I also managed to get my supports cut out in the dash pocket so that my gauges would fit. The speedo and tach were too close to the supports for the middle two screws; I had to take the dremel to them. Note to self: Get rid of stupid Grant wheel.

Now I have lots of engine wiring and gauge wiring to do, and I should be ready to start it up. Very Happy Burnout

2.5 to 3.

The insulation fell off the propped up carpet. Just one fire.

Funny. Laughing

I also puttered around on some other stuff earlier this weekend: some engine harness routing, got my intake buttoned up, radiator hoses in, power steering stuff hooked up, fuel system finished, some fluids in, exhaust adjusted and clamped in, and probably some other stuff I can't remember right now. It sure is getting close, I am starting to feel some anticipation. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer. I also made an executive decision to extend my harness and run the ECU inside the passenger compartment. I just can't seem to find a good place in the engine bay that doesn't require any extending, and if I am extending it, why not just put it in the cabin? Very Happy

How many hours would you say you have into the wiring alone now? Just out of curiousity

Well, so far stripping the harness took about an hour and a half, another hour to run wiring around the engine bay and plan out where everything is going, then I am expecting extending the harness and making it look nice to take between 4-8 hours. Gauge cluster took me about 2 hours of work to do last night.

I bet when I'm completely done I won't have more than 16-20 hours into the wiring total. That's a lot more than it takes me to do a batch fire single coil MegaSquirt harness, but to be fair the GM harness is a lot more complicated. Laughing The last two MegaSquirt harnesses I built took less than 10 hours each for sure. Also this is the first time I've had to redo a factory harness so there is a little learning curve built in. I am probably going overboard on the work a little to get everything set up perfectly the way I like it. Most people just feed power in and hack off some plugs. Mine will be completely redone.

Gabe is putting a lot more work into this harness than you'd see on most of the TGO hackjobs, but I think the end result will be well worth it.

With the harness rerouted and rewrapped and the ECM relocated to the factory spot it will look much cleaner under the hood and be much more serviceable down the road.

Gutting a factory harness is way more labor intensive than a Megasquirt!

One of the many reasons I've ditched the factory RX7 ECU idea.

Jake, LT1 is no slouch, be proud!

At least Chevy didn't weave the engine harness into everything else like Mazder did. Razz

I'm trying to do this swap the right way in every way. Doing it right the first time will hopefully ensure many years of happy, healthy LS1 motoring with a minimum of redoing stupid stuff.

I'm sure after this is done I will have lots of proud moments showing it off to friends, family and Crewbies. Smile The smiles will be even bigger when I'm behind the wheel though! Very Happy

Jake, your LT1 swap is nothing to sneeze at. I bet I've spent twice what you did on your swap, and I sure don't have twice the power! Laughing

As far as the harness goes, I just need a day or two and a solid work ethic to get it done. I have other plans this weekend, so it won't happen soon but I am hoping to get quite a bit done next week and weekend. I need to get this car running! I am tired of not driving it, it's been almost exactly three months since the last time I was behind the wheel and I'm starting to have thirdgen withdrawals. Burnout

I would go crazy with no 'bird for 3 months. I try not to drive it in the pouring rain so if there's a dry day, I practically dump the clutch right out of the garage... lol can't wait to see it running though, I'm looking for more motivation to pull the trigger on a motor I'm thinking about buying.
