I'm in the market. Right now I'm leaning toward Asus and Toshiba.
What's your favorite and why? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I just bought a new ASUS win8 laptop. My last one served me very well for almost 2 years. I just needed a faster computer is why I got a new one. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

A few years ago Deb got a Gateway laptop which is actually an Acer. She loves it and has absolutely no problems with it. Has a great keyboard and is a wider form factor then some too. The toshiba's can be either very cheap or good depending on what you spend. The minlaw was given a cheap toshiba and thats exactly what it is. Crappy plastic keys, horrid display etc.
I guess other then Dell those are the only 2 I have experience with. I'll never recommend a Dell laptop again.
Myself, I'd have to think about one of the new Microsoft Surface Pro's. Not the RT but the Pro. Pro runs the full version of win8 and can run any regular windows software. Not app software like the RT. |

| I just got a Fujitsu and I like it quite a bit. I was comparing it to all the other laptops I could that had identical or similar specs for the same price. I chose it purely because I liked the way the keyboard felt, the design and feel of the outside, and the overall compactness. |

Not a fan of apple or their price tag. Using an eleven year old dell right now. Its just started to be finiky in charging.
Ive used a few toshiba satellites and thought they were rather robust. In the old shop we used one for diagnostics and it was great until some asshole ran it over with a class 8 tractor.
Girlfriend has a asus some 4 years old and its still kickin. She takes it everywhere.
Friend bought a lenovo and went through three in two weeks before he gave up. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Some of our engineers have the panisonic toughbooks. However, they are very pricy.
One of our boss' LOVES dell. He has had a dell laptop for about 5-6 years, screen just went out.
I have an alienwear laptop, which is a gaming dell. Bought it used. For as little as I use one, its fine. But the battery goes quick. |

I've seen some of the Panasonic Toughbooks at work. They are tough, probably the reason for the price. They were available in our employee store for a while, but I haven't been on the site to what's available in some time. _________________ 92 Camaro

All the computers at my work are Dell. They are pretty tough. Mine has been all over the world and never missed a beat. I get the biggest baddest laptops because I use pro-e. A lot of co-workers have normal laptops. All the Dell laptops I've seen over the last 10 years are hit and miss on having problems in the first month. Once people get one that shakes out okay it seems to last a very long time. Most will eventually develop problems with docking and undocking from the workstation which can be annoying. And it's scary how many people lose a hard drive without warning, although that has never happened to me. That's my experience with Dell for what it's worth.
It's rare to see a tough book at my work. Those tend to be given only to people that are nearly always in the field. |

Toughbooks are sweet as hell, but in that hell is the way I'd fork over that kind of coin! In the shop that's all we use. My personal shop one is an ancient CF-29 with a whopping 512MB of ram with touch screen! Is it bad that it's missing the essential F8 key?
This is a house/desktop main type laptop. No need for that police case. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

The screen on our 3 year old HP crapped out recently. It was a good laptop while it lasted. Seems to be a design flaw as alot of people seem to have had the same problem.
Our Toshiba is awesome but still pretty new. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6
