If any of you remember, about 1.5 years ago I bought a car hauler trailer. As Ive been using it, Ive been adding things to it. I'm onto my next mod and I'm having a bit of problems finding exactly what I want.
I'm trying to find a way to mount my spare tire. I dislike them on the sides, no space on the front. So I'm going under it like a truck/suv mount. I have only found one aftermarket company so far that makes this, and they wont seem to contact me back. I found a picture of another one I like more online, but there was no mention of brand/where it came from. Want to see if anyone recognizes this..

Or, if your a member of that site, would you be willing to msg the person for me (i'll give more details).
So, other things I have done..
LED side marker lights
LED Tail lights(broke a normal one)
LED liscense lights
LED clearance lights
stained floor deck with water repellant(sp) stain
came with 3.5k axles, 1 w/brakes. Changed to 2-7k axles w/brakes
recever up front to mount winch
waren 4k winch w/60ft cable
battery box w/battery
redid all wiring to charge battery, and make a full ring around the trailer
4 D-rings
2 floor popup hooks
bought a true set of car straps
got an expensive ass brake controller for the truck
finally got a spare
Things I'm looking at doing
Spare tire mount under trailer
More D-rings
Tilting/removeable fenders?
storage under the cornors
drag pan on the rear
longer ramps
mud flaps

Lots of trucks came from the factory with crank-up spare holders like that. That one in particular looks like it is from a first-gen S10 pickup.
I would measure the distance you have across your frame rails where you want to mount this thing and then go to the yard and start crawling under trucks with a tape measure. |

I will have to make rails to mount it to. Thats not a 1st gen s10 unless he made the black tubes.
I also have to worry on hub size. I just went to a huge hub.
I will likely have to do the junkyard thing and make my own tube to the side of the trailer. |

Look at how it was built. The rails you speak of are just square tubing with bevels ends and two pieces of bent steel inside of those. The actual hoist is very small.
Hub size is not a problem. From the factory GM just used a piece of W-shaped steel notched to fit on the cable. You would just need to make a bigger one. |

The rails are angle iron. I will have to tuck whatever inbetween them. I guess I need to make sure the wheel will fit first
Ive been looking at some for dodge trucks. I'm sure that hub size would work, and I think I can make some brackets to hold it.
:edit: wait, are you talking about that picture, or the way my trailer is built? |

I was referring to the picture. I am not familiar with your trailer.
I'm doing a lousy job of communicating.
What I was trying to say is that he built everything that you see except for a very small portion in the center which came from the junkyard. Most of the stuff he painted black is just off-the-shelf steel stock. The Pirate forum is very DIY. Those guys don't just 'buy' things.
I was also trying to point out that the size of your hub does not matter as you can change the support piece that holds the tire up. It is just a plate on the end of the winch cable that slips through the center of the wheel. |

ok, so your saying he made most of what I see, and the part he bought is hidden.
Most of the spare winches I have seen, have the end of the cable clamped where the piece that goes in the hub wont come off. Thats why I'm worried about hub size. |

Also look at the spare tire carriers from 2000-up Tahoes/Suburbans. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S
