Call Randy's Ring & Pinion in Everett and ask them how much they would charge and how long it will take then divide the price by 2 and quadruple the time it would take to do it, since you're aren't working on these everyday. This formula seems to work for me. Smile

I replaced the axle bearings and carrier bearings on a 10-bolt once for IIRC about $50 worth of bearings and about 8 hours total worth of work spread over two days. But that damn rear end fought me every step of the way. Agreed, if doing the pinion bearings too it is much more involved.

Whole diff? What year is your car? 26 or 28 spline axles in your car? The posi unit you're looking to buy has 28 splines. You need a dial indicator at very least. Also, isn't a '91 diff wide like the 4th gens for the non dished wheels or did they just have deep holes for the lug nuts?

Which bearings? Axle bearings? Carrier bearings? Pinion bearings? R&R bearings in a diff is one of the more advanced classes.

Whole rear bearing/seal set will run you over $100.

Whole rear with acxles and brakes. Time is not as much of an issue since I have alot more then that then money. It is 50 dollars so I just am curious at worse case acenario as long as gears and axles are good if its worth it. I am sure I can do work if I dont need special tools. and if I buy I reaearch the strps to do it. I just, need to make decision to vuy here soon cause he will bring close to my work. So lets say parts were 100 and I payed 50 then I am in it 150. Seems good. But if parts 300 then ill keep looking.

$150 and plenty of time...go for it!

A whine could also mean bad axles. But axle savers can take care of that.

Is the 91 rear end assembly wide like a 4th gen? If so you will have your wheels stick out 2" on either side.

91-92 should be the exact same as every other thirdgen.

I wasn't sure. Because the wheel offset looks different and the 1LE brake option had a different spacing as well. I've seen fourthgen wheels on late thirdgens and they looked normal.

You'll need a press and a bearing seperator. Also as said a dial indicator to set backlash. You'll basically be setting up the rear all over again just as if you were changing gears. Also you most likely will end up with a whine. Used gears have a run in pattern and its hard to get everything set up exactly where it was again. So the gears will be running in a different area and may cause some noise. That won't hurt anything if its set right.. but it could be annoying.

The noice will be fime cause I probly wont be able to hear over exhaust. But can the seperating and pressing be done at a machune ship?

Ya, you might hear that gear whine loud and clear. The 4.10 gears in my Camaro were flat out loud when cruising and I had extremely loud exhaust. It's not too much of a bother though if constant high pitch sounds don't annoy you. Anybody that is married should have no trouble tuning out the noise.

could be 3.73 for the gear ratio. Probably not factory gears, I don't think that was an option.

If its truely from an SS, it should have a Zexel Torsen Posi.

$200 isn't bad without brakes

$200 with brakes, is a great deal.

Offset will be wrong.

SS with T56 got 3.73 for the last couple years IIRC.

Price is okay.
