Most likely place is any connection in that circuit.. so clutch or neutral safety switch, vats relay, ignition switch etc.

Take your volt meter and follow the wiring diagram back til you find where you get 12volts again.

idk if its different but my harness is out of a firebird, once the purple wire goes into the firewall where does it go? my manual says the purple wire goes into the fuseable links, but thats not the case with this wiring harness

Purple wire goes to the shifter, turns yellow and goes into the column.

If Vats is bypassed double check whatever connection you made there. If you just bypassed it with a resistor.. then the system isn't truly bypassed. There will still be a relay and its associated wiring in the system.

Wire comes out the large connector on firewall next to brake booster (C100 connector, terminal B4). Pull back the split loom and you'll find the purple wire in the bundle. It's the only nice fat purple wire. Probably passes behind the engine and down to the starter.

i tested the purple wire at the safety switch and it only read .5v and my car has NEVER started in neutral. but i held the key in the start position and moved it to neutral and you can hear the starter click idk if that has anything to do with it

i tested the purple wire right where it goes in the firewall its the same at the starter 7.56v

You know there is no shame in taking the car to a mechanic. Is there some reason why you don't do that?

Then don't be hitting that starter with low voltage. That's probably how the first two died. Absolutely wrecks the contact disc that carries starter current.

Disconnect purple wire at starter and just use a light to check if it is active.

Problem with this.. without a load the wire will probably read 12v.

figured it out, the brain for my power locks/remote start fried, hooked up the starter wire back up normally (deleted remote start) and good to go
