| If you've built your own cable which design did you use? Has anybody logged a CCC system? |

Software is ecm specific. Tunerpro maybe? Ask mangus.
I'll try to find my old cable diagram. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Mark told me once that his stuff would work. But I see there's a new one out now. Winaldl will work for sure with it, and they show a single transistor cable. I'm probably going to try it. But I'm reading there are possible issues using one with a serial to usb adapter?
Then some people are using 2 transistor, and others are uses a max232 convertor in their cable.
To top it off some carb's use an added resistor, though mine may not because its newer and actually 160baud like the tbi ecms.
Did you have to use the 10k resistor to get the data started?
So much confusion LOL
The few people who actually get it working on tgo never come back to say what they did.
Oh and did you have to use an external 12v source? One of the carb guys had to get their 12v from the lighter instead of the obd port. |

Resistor for mar cars.
2transustor for maf cars, but works for both.
Never had problems with usb/serial adapters as long as you install them correctly. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Thanks Paul, that first one is the one i've been looking at. There's some conflict though because the 87 computer was completely different then the earlier carb ecms. The 87 went 160baud like the tbi ecm's. They only used this ecm for 87fbody and 87-88 gbody's.. So it may or may not need the resistor LOL.
I know you wouldnt have known about that, but I was having trouble finding the 2 transistor diagram too. Most of the web pages I found it referenced to are gone now.
Guess nothing to do but make one and try it! |

| Question.. are we looking at the front or back of the db9 connector? |

In that diagram, if it's a male connector, then you are looking at the pins. If female, then the back side of the connector. _________________ 92 Camaro

Thanks, thought as much but wanted to make sure. Working with a female connector since i'm cutting up a cord that plugs into my adapter.
Got the cable all soldered up. Just need to do some insulating and then try it. A small breadboard might have worked cleaner though. |

Connectors may.. but i'm cutting up a cord.
Allready broke my transistor while trying to insulate everything I had a small breadboard kit.. but sucker has grown legs. |

It's two wires.
Get the solder based connetor end and the clam shell. Solder all little parts to the connector and fit it all.inside the clamshell with just the wires coming .out to the aldl. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| Local radiocrack didnt have a connector.. I'm also looking at 3 resistors and the transistor all having to go in there. Not saying it wont fit just that theres a few parts to put in. Practically had to go to the wall of shame to find any serial stuff. |

I fit it in there with the 4 cables I've made without any trouble. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Well searched for myself and found a connector but its very tiny. Not like the ones i've seen online. The clamshell is only about the width of the connector itself. Say 1/2" wide and inch long. The screw holes are actually out on wings. I'll go ahead with my board idea. Guess i've only got one extra resistor but still seems like alot to pack in there.
Thanks for the help. |

I went with a small project box for the one I built a couple of years ago. Much easier to mount the things on a board, even though it does take up more space |

Ok.. cant get the single transistor to work at all. So going to try a 2 transistor. But I see I need a diode. What part do I need to get there?
I guess thats an LED in this. I assume not required unless you want to see if its transmitting?
I found another diagram but it uses totally different values for everything and does have a diode. |

| Just found another setting I may need to tweak. Thought I saw a mention of it somewhere last night.. no idea where though LOL. It's a windows baud setting for that port. Sets itself to 9600, but I think it needs to be set at 4800 like the software is. Will try that tomorrow. |
