If the marks are together, is that 1tdc, or 4tdc?

Ive always adjusted the 1st step of my valves with the dizzy pointing to 1..... which would be "up,up,1".

:edit: Ok, so up,up,1 is TDC. So I adjusted my valves correctly. I'm crossing my fingers the rattle was just lack of oil for a few seconds.

You shouldnt be adjusting valves using that pattern where you adjust a certain number of them at tdc etc.. With a performance camshaft some valves may not be on the base circle.

It's much more safe to use the ICEO(EOIC) method. When the intake is closing adjust the exhaust valve, when the exhaust is opening adjust the intake valve.

Then you've been doing chains wrong. Sorry bud.

When the balancer mark is on the timing pointer you are tdc of #1.

Cam timing determines if that's the power stroke or exhaust artless.

Sprocket marks together for installation is tdc exhaust stroke. Aagain spin the motor over once after you put the timing cover on until the balancer and timing pointer line up. That's tdc #1 power stroke. Install distributor with the rotor.facing #1 plug wire

Adjust valves.like Brandon.said.

Well, It ran..........

But I figured out what the noise was the first time. Seems that these vette valve covers have(had) these black tabs hanging down that the only point I see is to direct any oil spash to drip down to the pivot point. They dont get along with full body roller rockers.
