Floor jack, bottle jack, busted knuckles, BFH, bent coolant lines, lots of swearring and yet it will still leak oil when done. Lots o fun.

Slowly getting there. Did end up taking the pan off.

:edit: oil pan back on, back on motor mounts, WP and pully on, radator back on, fans on, rocker studs tightened, rockers on. Intake welded, ground, and cleaned.

Crank pully ended up coming back off Rolling Eyes

Still need to put exhaust and starter back on.

Got it together, go to start it for the first time get some loud clacking and no fire. Second try, no noise, but no start.

Sounds like timing or Cam timing.

Did you degree the cam or just install it straight up? Did you turn the engine over 1 full rotation before installing the distributor?

The chain only had one notch, so no degreeing it.

Um, cant remember on dizzy. I'm starting to think maybe half way.

:edit: more I think, I stabbed the dizzy on #4. crap!

When you line up the timing gear marks to put the chain on, you are TDC of #1 exhaust stroke. So you need to rotate the motor 1 full turn lining the timing pointer up, then stab the dizzy on #1.

I took it apart with mark up, mark up, dizzy on 1.

But I had to rotate the motor to set the rockers, and I did that before I put the intake on and dizzy. Didnt rotate it back. UGH.

Still doesnt explain noises.

Never put the chain on mark up mark up.

The marks are there to point at each other and make sure you didn't run it a tooth off.

Noises could be a number of things. Valve adjust, Timing, Lifters that haven't seen oil yet.
