|
|
Long time no post!
I'm looking to supercharge my motor. I know the motor will handle it, I just hope it fits under my hood..
2" Goodmark cowl hood. And I was looking at the roots style Vortec 144. (lowest profile I could find) Holley 670cfm street avenger carb. I'm sure I'll have to find a lower profile air filter, I just don't want to cut a hole in a hood and I want to keep the cowl. Anyone have experience with this? I saw that someone in the "Camaro Performance Handbook" had a B&M supercharged motor, but it didn't say what model or if it had a huge ass 4" cowl hood.
Thanks |

You can buy an entry level Vortec Centrifugal for almost the same price and it will make more power and will surely fit under that hood _________________

| I guess I just like the look of the roots better. Will my carb work with a centrifugal since its blowing through instead of pulling? |

Doing something to your car based solely on it "looking better under the hood" is somewhere down there with doing things that "make it sound better" on the bottom of the list.

There was a kid who just asked that same question on here not long ago and got some good answers. Here let me find it for you!

Where does the pressure go?
Remotes work, the issue is running that much pipe under a low car, pumping oil back up into the pan, and the complete insanity of running a remote turbo on a vehicle with as much underhood space as these cars have.
BTW, I suggest the kid kill two birds with one stone on the s/c front:

Depends on what youre doing lol i make things sound better for a living
Im a fan of centrifugal myself, much cleaner in my opinion but to each his own, i beleive ive mentioned to nick before that this is a very slippery slope and it just gets more expensive as you go lol
Nick if i were you id do all your other mods FIRST and then toy with the idea of a supercharger, hell if you go t56 throw some 4.10's in the rear and have fun with it
as far as remotes go im with aaron, theres room for them in the engine bay, we've all seen it done, and i believe the issue with remotes is not the loss of pressure, but the increase in lag correct? and thats a hell of a long ways to pump oil back to, id be afraid of either A: punching the pipe on a bump or B: tearing the remote oil line on something and watching your investment sieze up _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Forgot I even made that post. Thanks Aaron! Lol. But yeah I know I need to do other mods first, I just spend a lot of time on summit when im bored and dream about what my car can look like in the future. Andy, what size gears are the ones you gave me? 3.23's? Installing that's going to be next. Then a windshield, then probably start saving money to get the t56. Just as a side question, I know a lot of you guys have done the t56 swap. How much start to finish would it be? I know there's a lot of components that go into it, and I've seen kits, but for some reason there isn't a kit for the 91.. |

you already have the "petals" and stuff so its not too much of a job, if you had an automatic switching to a t56 it would be a lot more work _________________

Don't install 3.23 gears in a car destined to run a T-56. |

No doubt!
I had 4.10 gears in my Z28 and it felt "normal". RPM's still low on freeway. It's the way it should have been from factory. Kid that bought my car trashed the rearend within days and put in a rear with 3.73 gears. Wishes for the 4.10's back. |

My dad's '99 Z28 with stock 3.42 and T56 feels like it needs more gear. They should have had at least 3.73 stock. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
