So my camaro after its nice and warmed up especially at stop lights will smoke out the tail pipes - more than just a little. People give me space so they don't get exhaust all over their windshield. I was thinking I need to pull the heads and put new ring seals in? The engine was sitting for 1 years before it was in the car, and then 2 years before I had it running.

I'm thinking they probably cracked. or maybe a second oil change and some restore would do the trick? any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Blue smoke at startup = bad valve stem seals.
Smoking out the people behind you when the engine is warm = way to much fuel or....bad rings. Those aint seals, they are tensioned steel discs that slide into notches in the pistons. Pulling the heads will not give you access to those unless you having a really bad day Shocked

And your not leaving "exhaust" on their windsheilds, it's oil. Kinda a PITA especially when it's raining.

What color is the smoke? White, black, or just a hint of blue? What does it smell like?

Its a hint of blue, definitely not black or pure white. I know its not water in the engine, it smells like im burning oil. I will have to re-check my fuel mixture to be on the safe side. I noticed today as well im dripping a little oil. Just a tiny bit if sat for a couple hours. im talking a few small drops. But its on my bell housing and starter, not quiet sure the source yet. It could be something dumb like the oil pan isn;t fully tight.

I will start the car tomorrow and let it warm up and smell with my brain this time and see if I can give more info. As of now I can say its not a black color or a pure white color. How much blue or how prominant the smell ill get back to you.

If the engine has been sitting forever I would change the oil and run some Rislone (the thin blue stuff, not the goopy crap) with the oil.

Just my two cents.

The oil dripping down the back of the block does look like its coming from the rear main seal. =\

Spent more time with my smokey car, its a very light blue most of the time not noticeable. The exaust seems to have a bit of an oil smell not so much a fuel one. I've noticed its plumes the worst when I've driven down the street and come to a stop. So from 3rd gear down to neutral, then when its green hit 1st and I can see the cloud go. I guess one could argue that happens on the highway but can't see the smoke from the rear view mirror.

Also I noticed that after warm I've seen the exaust leave black soot looking residue on the pavement. not sure if thats oil or just junk the exaust from sitting so long burning out.
