Especially when I'm 50 miles from home?

Oh yeah, just rub it in! Laughing I actually snapped it right at the Tdome on I5. Dirty Steve and I tow roped it back to my house last night. I'm going to tear into it more tonight. I'm pretty sure I need a new head.

Flat towing from Tacoma to Bothell? That's a ballsy choice. Laughing

There's an entire Eta pullout up your way for dirt cheap:

I think it's the perfect excuse for a B25 head swap. Wink Just hope that the pistons are OK. And holy crap, that quite the tow. Laughing

It was either that or sit on my ass for hours until morning so I could locate a truck and trailer. Dirty Steve is a bad influence. Laughing He is also a sketchy "tow-er". As soon as we got on the freeway he bombed ass up to 65mph!

Damn, that's not a bad price for the entire motor. Then I guess I'd have to decide whether I wanted to just toss that one in (with some clean up) or use that head on my block. My motor was running amazingly well for an eta. I guess most don't see over 100whp.

If that didn't require a rewire (upgrade to the motronic 1.whatever) I would do it in a heartbeat. But this is my daily so I guess I'm content tossing it back to factory for now.

Good news; the motor is in GREAT shape! Aside from a few leaks this thing still has very visible crosshatching!

Well, aside from that tiny hole in the piston...

bummer man. When i saw the timing belt post on FB, i wondered.

Bigger, stronger, faster? Wiseco makes plenty of stout metric sized pistons...I'm just saying.

Laughing Nah, it's just getting another factory motor. I'd have to ecu swap it to make any power/be able to tune it and I don't want to do that with another car already down. Besides, I'm accruing parts for LS goodness for this as well. Very Happy

Here's your timing chain for ya..

VW vr6.. and vw has the brilliance of putting that mess on the transmission end behind the flywheel. The kid who drives this told his grandfather it just ran out of gas LOL

Nice one, Brandon. Razz

I see VW used the same hydraulic tensioner BMW did.... and that deferred maintenance has the exact same result as on the BMW!

Did you ask the kid if it sounded like a bunch of tin cans were following him home for a few months before his car "ran out of gas"? Laughing

Yeah, picking it up tomorrow. I'm in the middle of a 2wk stretch of work so I can only wrench on it for an hour or so a day. Hopefully have the other one back in by Thursday.

Yanked motor last night. I'm still a bit dejected I couldn't snag that stroker.

And now I see why how easy a v8 swap will be. There is a ton of room in this thing...
