Welp, I bonered a bit. I had feared my turbo was going to be too low once the car was on the ground and situated and I'm fairly certain it is. Oil drain leaves the turbo into a 45* 1/2>10an fitting and can run to a 10an fitting in the bottom of the front timing cover about 8 inches away. Problem is, it isn't really "draining" as there is only a 1/4" height difference between the two and It has to snake around the serp belt similar to a question mark shape (?). Come on cascade crew, I need your inspirational idears! Very Happy

Some wordy mofo's these guys, but $275 and they claim the pump will survive with very hot oil:

I have read of issues with using the usual scavenge pumps like you would for an oil cooler or something. With the temps so high right off the turbo they run great for a short time and then slowly burn up.

Whoa. I was hoping for 100-175ish kind of price. Laughing Oh well. Go big or go home. Is that a unit you've seen used before? 30 years in the business is impressive until I think about how long Hennessey has been around. Very Happy

More pump is a bad thing for the turbo. You need to relocate the drain fitting to the oil pan. End of story.

Paul I'm not sure you see what I'm doing here. I'm looking for a scavenge pump inline with the drain side of the turbo. Real commonplace on turbo setups mounted below engine oil level or rear mount setups. Because we all know rear mount are awesomely efficient. Very Happy

I have seen it pop up in a few builds. Google some of the part numbers and you'll find them. The part # comes back as a Peterson (which makes sense). Laughing

The issue seems to be with finding any useful information on scavenge pumps. The problem is that people who build remote-mount turbo setups just generally have their head up their ass, thus leading to things like using a Holley Blue fuel pump. Rolling Eyes

Reading a lot on pump failures with the STS kits as well.

The turbowerx units are getting some use with the LSx guys. And conveniently one of them popped his motor with just a few thousand miles on his turbo install. I'm picking up an almost brand new unit for well under half of retail.

I'm thinking bare minimum having an oil pressure activated warning light on the dash somewhere tied to the line between turbo and pump. Too much pressure and light activates. At least give me a chance to save the engine.

I was mulling over ideas for an effective warning system and the idea of running a pressure switch right above the pump had occured to me as well. Laughing

The Turbowerx pump seems popular and it has a heatsink which seems like it might be useful. Nice find on the used unit. Cool

Thanks! I wasn't going to be purchasing one for a bit but this just kind of fell into my lap. Maybe I'll get some more work done on the bird. It's too cold in the garage. Laughing Wait, are you going to run a scavenge pump as well?

Leave your pants on and it will work out better. Razz

Oh hell no. My drain line is on a nearly vertical drop into the side of the pan. Cool

I commit to the wrong things way too easily (turbo placement) and take my sweet time on all the little crap that doesn't need as much consideration(what power steering reservoir am I going to use?) Laughing

Can you use the factory fourthgen veesix unit?

Works fine on my car. I just need to cut the bracket down and hard mount it.

Have a picture handy? I was just going to go through the junkyard until I found one that I could use. I realized this morning that I could've used the BMW unit but I already tossed it. Laughing

Embarrassingly no, as I only take pictures of dumb, useless stuff, so I had to venture out to my own cold-ass garage to take one. Laughing

The low pressure line is 5/8". I think the high is 1/2". Baffled internally. Bought new lines from WOFSCO. Bracket not shown as I forget where it is (but it's around, I assure you). Embarassed

The 90's B-bodies used a similar reservoir but it was shaped differently (to fit around a fenderwell) and I am not sure what type of bracket it used.

Yikes. That has some height I don't think I can deal with. How tall is it overall?

From the top of the cap to the ends of the hose barbs on the bottom is ~8". The reservoir body itself is under 7".

If you're worried about size look for a B-body can. It's shorter, fatter, and the hose barbs are angled. Here's a random Google pic:

Now that could be perfect. I wonder if tumwater still has those firebird hoods I could kill two birds with one stone. Laughing

Give them a call. They're better than most yards at answering the phone and knowing what's out there.
