So I'm sitting at the ferry dock right now with the 90s dash and I'm thibkingover the wiring and I have a question.

Are the power accessories (Windows, locks, hatch release) a stand alone harness that will plug into the new dash harness? Just wanna identify any issues and work out a plan ahead of time, Luke said he believes they are but I just want to be positive before diving into this

TIA

It's not stand-alone like you're thinking, but it is somewhat modular.

Also '89 to '90 was a changeover year for a lot of wiring.

Just use the '90 harnesses. Engine and body. There are a lot less wires going to the back of the car than you think.

What all does the body consist of? I'm not worried about the rear lights, that's easy, I just wanna figure out where the power accessories tie into the harness and if I'm going to lose them on this swap over which I would prefer not to

Going off memory on all of this, so bear with me: Laughing

The harness to the power window switches and the hatch pop switch comes out from the main dash harness and goes down into the center console.

Power mirrors is fairly divorced. It runs alongside the dash harness and taps into the fuse box.

PDL runs through a bank of relays in the driver's kick panel. It taps power from the distribution block there.

Hatch heater taps power from that same dist. block.

I've only got the windows, hatch release and door locks, the windows and hach pop are my concerns I'm not sure if that harness has the "power options", is there a specific plug I need to look for? If I can identify what I'm looking for that would be helpful, I figured anything not included I can splice my factory door stuff to using a wiring diagram, and he locks would be cake since I could just use my old relays to actuate them

I'm gonna go take a look and see what it has for plugs as far as the center console switches go, if its got hatch pop ill be in good shape as far as that goes

But as far as I know gm wires everything and just didn't include certain features right? I've seen it a million times a "random plug" in car A could be the power locks in car B, same model different options make sense?

Edit: from the looks of it he gave me the fuuull harness front to back including speaker wires lol I'm not seeing power window/hatch plugs though but I could frnkenstien them into the system using my old harness as guidance

No, you're thinking of Ford. Wink GM had fairly different harnesses depending on what you ordered.

I would have to go through the harness to advise you much further. I have torn down and rebuilt many of them but it is hard to describe over the internet.

Basically you are correct though, you just need to compare yours with his and make what you want out of them.

Well I maaaay need your help on that when it comes time, al that's left is injectors, throttle cable for 90 tpi, trans sending unit and a trans rebuild if I can swing it

My t5 is shotty but my motor is slowly giving up the ghost, so Idk if I should just say screw it throw the motor and dash in, work out the kinks and save for a t5 fix, just drive like a grandma and all, the front bearing is worn causing the input shaft to wobble slightly which took out my bronze bushing after 60k miles but I think (because everyone follows this train of thought) I should just throw it all in, work out the kinks and when they're done get the t5 rebuilt, Paul was cool enough to offer me a good bid on it and I don't wanna keep holding off on it but at the same time the new motor is taking up room at my aunts and my storage time is running out, Idk what to do lol daily driver hinders my ability to just rip it apart and do it when I get the chance
