So in a few weeks, I hope the jimmy will be ready for some exhaust. Since I now have a welder, and was HIGHLY disappointed with the local "performance exhaust shop" I want to attempt to build my own.
Ive read, and I have decided to go with an h-pipe design... havent figured out where to do the crossover yet.
What I am wondering, is the cross pipe, it appears they build this with same size pipe, as the normal pipe. Any reason for this? Or could I run normal 2.5 for each side, then do a 2 or 2.25 across?
Also appears they bend the pipes so they are really close where they do the h at. Reason for this? I dont think thats doable as I will have a transmission and transfer case in the way and I will not drop this lower just for that. I want ground clearance!! _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

The purpose of the crossover pipe is to equalize the exhaust pressure in both sides of a dual exhaust system. I would think you would want the crossover pipe to be the same size as the rest of your cat-back pipes in the interest of keeping restrictions at a minimum. Way easier to fishmouth and install with the same size. Lots of theories on this. If you have long tube headers, use a x pipe.
The pipe bend is for driveline or transmission clearance. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I never saw twilights response. I am running ramhorn manifolds.
Anyway, finally got some exhaust parts in.
No way in hell will I get a cross pipe to go over the trans. So my only option would be after the transfer case. Would that be too far back to make it be useful?
I'm also still debating where to have it exit....
1. Infront of the rear tires
2. right behind rear tire
3. Strait out the back. |
