I heard a weird noise under the truck tonight as I was driving away from work. I decided to stop and walk around the truck and I find the cover under the engine bay laying on the ground and hanging from one last screw. A couple days ago I had my truck in for oil change at the local Ford dealer and they didn't install the cover correctly. I had to destroy it to get it out from under the truck.

I am pee-o' to a high degree. This is the same dealer that didn't tighten the AC belt when they changed the head gaskets on my Subaru. This is the same dealer that didn't put the wire harness clips back on my Subaru. This is the same dealer that a control arm fell off the right rear of my Subaru because they didn't tighten the bolt. This is the same dealer that misdiagnosed worn ball joints on my Superduty. This is the same dealer that put the wrong oil filter an a friend's Subaru and the engine ran out of oil. This is the same dealer that can't buff out new paint and left major swirls on my truck after 3 attempts to clean it up and I had to go to pay a real professional to do it right. This is the same dealer that couldn't figure out why the heater in my Aurora didn't work and charged me more money than the "mom and pop" shop that fixed it in 10 minutes. This is the same dealer that can't figure out why my Subaru stutters and almost dies periodically and denies this is a chronic issue. This is the same dealer that can't figure out why my friend's Subaru stutters and almost dies periodically.... and denies it is a chronic issue. The list goes on but I don't have a memory good enough to recite all the blunders.

Almost every time I've been to this dealer they have misdiagnosed problems, or not finished the work, or just plain did things wrong. The shop is full of morons. But apparently they are not the worst! I hear that people drive 80 miles to bring their Subaru to this dealership because the other dealerships are worse. WOW!!!! So my dealership isn't the worst in the world.... they're just very close.

I'm forever writing off this dealership. Time to go to town next door and try the other Ford dealer.

This is the huge chain in town. All this happened at multiple locations. It took time to develop a pattern that it doesn't matter what make and model you bring in because all locations are full of morons.

The Jeep guy is great. But he lives, eats, and breaths Jeeps inside and outside work.

And to top this off, the Mexican restaurant didn't put a lid on the cup of salsa when I brought home carry out food tonight. They hire morons too.

As the world fills up with people, more and more of the morons get jobs. And about the only thing they can do is stand and piss off customers.

Seriously though, what are you doing getting your cars serviced at a dealership?

Automotive dealerships exist only to sell you parts that you can't buy anywhere else locally and you don't want to wait for mail order.

When you drive a car made 20 years ago it probably doesn't make sense to go to a dealer. When you buy a car new then you do need to go in periodically so they can check for software updates and TSB's. Also, if you have warranty or insurance work done then you go to the dealer, which most these things have been.

I do about half the work at home and half at a shop (dealer or other). Depends on the weather, my mood, and the amount of money and effort involved. I used to work on cars to save money. Now I have plenty of money so I only work on cars if it is low effort and time. Hot rodding puts me in a happy zone where tinkering is part of the fun. Repairing normal cars is not fun to me and I won't do it if I don't feel like it.

Working on daily drivers is no fun and wears down the fun factor of working on the hobby vehicles.

Sounds like you need to send off some letters to regional warranty managers and find a better dealer or quality independant repair shop.

I must be a crazy person, but I'd almost rather work on a driver. My project cars take years to come to fruition. My driver projects are done within a day or two and I can see results which is good for an ADHD brain.

Jon, I can understand going there for warranty work but not for oil changes, headgaskets and wear items like your balljoints. That's Gomer's Neighborhood Shop-level stuff right there. Ity's not worth paying the dealer's markup or dealing with their uncompetitive service writers or mechanics.

It was warranty work. Oil changes don't cost any more there than other places.

I'm not confident the small shops know how to work on a Subaru. We hardly have any of those cars out here. Not a common vehicle like out your way. There are just as many Subaru dealers just inside the city of Portland, OR as there is in the entire state of Illinois.

After that crap I would give jiffy lube a shot lol dealers suck man, never had a good experience with them. Buy a car new and its paid for....sure, go for it but piddly things like changing your oil? and tsbs are found on the good old interweb, Idk what software updates you're getting but I don't know a single person who goes back regularly for them lol generally its recall work or the dealer can shove it in my opinion. Sad part is i did an apprenticeship at one for a few years, even after that I hate them lol
