|

Well evidently I snapped my speedo cable today, speedo reads 0, popped the cable off the cluster and pulled it through but it was only like 2 feet..... Car had cruise control so I've been told that means I've got a 2 piece cable? I threw the car on ramps and removed the cable from the transmission to find he tip broken off. Anyone know the size of the cable? And as far as the cruise goes does the cable go from the cluster to the cruise and then down? The end I saw when I pulled the cable out by the cluster was definitely not the same one I found at the transmission, if I can I would like to just band aid this, I've seen cable "repair" parts at oriely, and with the lack of info on cable length I just don't wanna hassle with it lol
Any clarification here?

Only the old cars (pre-'85 IIRC) got the mechanical cruise control with the two-piece cable. That's a real old-school way of doing it.
Thing was GM actually still put some two-piece cables in the later cars since the ends are male/female (so they just ran the two cables into each other).
Just go to the junkyard and pull one out of any pre-'90 Camaro or pre-'85 Bird. Then grab a bottle of Kroil or chain lube and grease it up.
You'd spend more time and money fooling with the BS "repair" kit than you would just replacing the cable. |

So I should be able to just undo it from the tranny and slide it out right? Or should I grab the outer shell also? From what I've read the cable is 78 inches and I can buy a full replacment that's 80", if I buy the 80 would I be able to just tie it up in the same spots and try to account for the 2 inches of slack? Ideally I would like to just pull the core cable out and snake the new one in for a quick and easy fix but how would that work if I have the 2 piece cable? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory
