Alright guys, I have a friend that's selling a c4 IRS setup and I kind of want to know what is fair. He's asking $700 right now, who can point me in a direction of real world prices? Smile

That's about twice what they're going for, Ian.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=corvette+dana+36

I saw a few old for-sale threads on Vette forums where they had gone for three to four hundred. I would tell him what you found, offer him $350 cash and see what he says.

Are you wanting to buy it or help him price it?

If he's pricing it for general sale then get as much as you possibly can. My motto is somebody has to be the person that gets top dollar.... why can't that person be me? Laughing

I'm wanting to buy it. Soo, definitely looking for bottom dollar. Laughing

$300 doesn't sound bad at all.

One project at a time, Ian. Razz

While I appreciate that theory I have a couple counterpoints to it:

1) If you hold out for more money you are actually "earning" that money by storing the item. So say you have something that should be thrown away that you're asking $5 for, or something that would move at $100 but you want $150 and you have to hang on to that stuff for an extra six months till the right idiot comes bumbling along. Now you just got paid 9 bucks a month to store that crap and that deal kinda sucks.

2) If I have the money in-hand from the sale I can move forward spending money on my own projects. Presumably I am selling this crap because I don't want it and I want to buy something else. Now I have to wait, and for as slow as I work I really do hate waiting. Razz

And now I have ruined the thread. Sad

Oh.... well.... hmmm..... I only know how to do shameless high pricing.

Ya, Aaron, I think your theory only applies to people that collect tooooooo much stuff and it borders being a partial source of income or serious hobby. I have a feeling your garage is packed a lot tighter than my garage. Laughing

Speaking of holding out, I still have a new big block flywheel for sale if somebody wants one. Yup yup

My hoarding is hit-or-miss. Sometimes I can't wait to get rid of stuff, and throw away or scrap something that could probably be sold. Other things I have a terrible time throwing away.

I've been wiring the Camaro today and I found some pigtails and switches I took off a Buick I owned when I was 14! Rolling Eyes Laughing

I'll throw down with a picture of the garage right now if you do the same. I'm honestly curious. Laughing

It wouldn't be unheard of to install that IRS on your 3rdgen. It has been done. Wink

That's the goal. However, all my measuring/planning is for a c5/6 rear cradle. But that is MUCH more expensive. Easier to just buy a rolling wrecked chassis.

Has anyone done the C4 into a vert yet? Does the spiderweb frame you will be building come up high enough to be an issue?

There was a yellow camaro I remember seeing about ten years ago. Had this funky square tube "roll bar/style bar"

Spiderweb frame? The brackets for the batwing?

Yup yup

You need a fairly high centerpoint to mount that thing to, do you not?

That doesn't look very strong as far as mounting goes....

What, have you been keeping tabs on me lately? The idea for a C4 IRS swap has been spinning in my mind for the past couple months. Does he have a D44?

Ian, I was referring to the upper point like so:

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w178/1meanz/vette%20IRS/IRSswap105.jpg
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w178/1meanz/pix%20summer%202010/groceryhauler003.jpg

Which now that I look at it seems like it would clear the vert decklid just fine. Doh!

Paul, he gussets it more later in the build. Check it out:

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w178/1meanz/vette%20IRS/IRSswap068.jpg

The whole build these guys are all on about can be found here:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/suspension-chassis/565609-c4-corvette-rear-suspension.html

I watched him build that entire thing and was not terribly impressed with the amount of labor for the gain. If you're going to put that much work into a backhalf you should start with a better car than a thirdgen. *devils advocate* Wink

I just don't see the gains in a IRS vs Live axle on any street car. Plus a 9" or 12 bolt holds any power we want in our street cars.
