I am still totally a genius.
Had to do struts and shocks on the roommate's POS daily yesterday, then it got hot and I got drunk so nothing else productive happened. Today I got started a bit earlier and stayed a bit more sober and this b*tch was running by lunchtime!
The Banks kit uses a stupid oiled filter that is actually smaller than the factory N/A filter (Banks on the right, factory on the left with foam liner):
It also comes with the world's stupidest airbox. Air comes in through the tube on the front (top left) from the factory intake ducting, through the center of the box, through the tiny Banks filter (a proprietary filter, mind you ), and out the large tube at the rear of the box (lower left). Then it goes through an elbow into the turbo and back out of the turbo into the 2" hole in the bottom of the box. That area is a separate charge chamber that flow down into the intake.
Now that was all kinds of dumb and hard to install and so I umm... modified it.
All you really need is the charge chamber, so that's all that stayed. It's jobs like this that make me want to buy a band saw, but then I'd be tripping over that in the shop. I could have spent some time on it and made it a lot nicer but f*** it, it's an old truck and I'm impatient.
Anyhoo, installed that, plugged the hole in the intake for the old CDR valve (diesel crank vent system) and after a bunch of small stuff and a couple runs to the hardware and auto parts stores it totally runs.
I still need to head by Paul's and get some intake piping and a filter. I also need to figure out some sort of catch can and crank vent, and reroute a bunch of vacuum lines, wires, and the throttle cable (which is currently rubbing on the exhaust side of the turbo ). |

When I get drunk I get more cautious. Sober I'm a mechanical maniac. |

| Ten second glowplug timer. I let it run all the way down to get a good video but with the temps over 80* here today I would normally crank after a second or two. |
