| Went to replace the exhaust manifold gasket on the passenger side o the v6 car today. Broke one of the bolts that goes from the manifold to the downpipe. Heck. |

Because stainless bolts never twist off. |

But they do resist rusting which is what I presume caused him to twist the one in the car off. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I seem to remember that happening to to the driver side of my V6 during the motor swap I found an S-10 manifold locally at the junkyard that worked perfectly _________________ 92 Camaro

i seem to remember being the one to do that to your V6 during the motor swap.
Stainless bolts are great, but in this instance the bolt that broke is pressed in. So i am going to have to drill it out and then obtain a stainless bolt. I am using this opportunity of having the manifold out of the car to delete the cumbersome EGR system. It has been unhooked for years, now it's time to fill the holes and get rid of one more silly UFO flying saucer from under my hood. One day you are going to actually be able to see my engine.
I also shredded a plug wire, so a new set of those is going to be required. No more 12mm Race wires.
*EDIT
You know what sounds bad ass? A V6 running on 5 cylanders with open heads on one bank. Fired her up to pull it up the driveway, sounded like a damn top fuel dragster. i could not resist hitting it just once. |

| The bolt isnt press in. It's a threaded stud. If you had access to a good torch you may be able to turn it out by heating the manifold ear. |

Brandon is right, i noticed this when drilling through the old bolts. So i drilled them both through and replaced them with grade 8 zinc washed bolts. Took the manifold over to my brother, who welded the EGR port shut. Now the whole mess is put back together and it is sooooo quiet. I took the oportunity to grease the clutch piston pivot point as well, where it meets the pedal. two annoyances i have been listening too for far to long are now gone.
Also replaced the plug wires. |
