Doing some research on this setup and would like to know what you all think...good, bad, indifferent. Appreciate any input. _________________

How do you feel about a Vortec 350 injected?
So your actual question is:
Carb or FI.........? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Isn't that basically what Chris had in the Hello Kitty car? They will make some pretty decent power for cheap.
Good points: roller cam motor
vortecs are better heads than l98 TPI heads
put a small zz4 or hot cam in for a little more power through higher RPM
if you get the heads ported/polished with bigger valves they would be awesome budget heads
Bad Points : CARBURATOR...nuff said
you have to get a different timing cover since the timing cover has a big hole in it for the cam/crank sensor
you need an electric fuel pump since they don't have a mechanical provision _________________ 1983 Z-28 5.7 LT1, T56, Headman headers, BW 9 Bolt Posi Disc, WS6 suspension

My 383 is a Vortec TBI motor. I didn't ask for anything special when it was built, so stock 350 as far as I know, except for the bottom end. With fuel pressure bumped to 18psi, it dynoed 248 hp, 348 ft/lb. _________________ 92 Camaro

James is this an old 350 with Vortec heads on it or a Vortec truck motor with a carb on it?
How local is this kid? Can we run out and take a look at it sometime?
I think the crew might need a little more info on your insider scam so they can give advice. |

No scam, Aaron. I know what I want and what I'm getting into...
Just curious about the set up. Once in my possession, I'll pull all of the numbers to see what's really there. For all I know, it could be a 307. _________________

Didn't some of the Truck Vortec SBC's not have the hole in the timing cover?
Either way, a Good, well tuned carb, a Good distributor/Coil and ignition box, and a good dual plane manifold will give a lot of pep to a mildly built bottom end, reguardless if its a flat-tappet or roller motor.

Yes. Carb rebuild, mufflers, interior work, paint, electrical, among other things. I doubt I'll bring it to dyno unless I still have it next year. _________________

Are you talking about another engine. Not really. I have one that's been sitting in my shop for over 3 years. _________________

The one I still have is the first of 4...there was a 307, a completely dismantled 305 (or 350; I can't remember) and the 305 that's in John's TA now. Gabe's 355 looked tempting, but I'm not ready to invest in a build...maybe one day. _________________
