Checking out these both Via Craigslist:

looks like the driver door is going to need a hinge kit, as it doesn't look like it lines up exactly.

Couple hundred more, and has no motor/trans. I've been checking out the compatability of changing out tailshafts with my T5 with an S10's to make it work in an A-body. From what I've read here: http://www.garage-scene.com/t5-into-ag-body. It can be done, with a little work. hardest part would be finding pedals, but I guess Classic industries sells the manual trans pedals. My Lakewood scattershield has a dual pattern (straight up, and the F-body angle towards the driver). So keeping the T5 is a viable option.

I honestly like the second option. I've called both sellers. The second one answered and seemed to be more promising.

What do you guys think? I can do this now, but I'd be in a better financial position if I wait until after the new year.

The '80 seems like exactly what you wanted, and it's a good price for what you're getting.

I had a 1979 Mailbu when I was in high school. Had a little 265 in it. Would be cool to still have though. They are beginning to be popular with guys to build.

I put a camaro t5 into an s10, using the s10 bell housing.

1. I just had to change the crossmember mount angle.
2. driveshaft fit just fine.
3. shifter location was almost a foot futher to the rear. If I had a bench seat, I would have been screwed.
4. Vss pulse was different, never did get speedo to work.

I have thirdgen hydros as well as both thirdgen and fourthgen pedals here I would work a deal on. Wink

Any specific reason why you chose mechanical?

I had no complaints about my Mech linkage either. Not as smooth as the hydraulic, but after a few times of clutching in/out you kind of get used to it again and you know how much throttle and release you need to give.

I am running the mechanical linkage too, it works good, the only problem so far is the z-bar cracked but some 1/8" plate and a welder fixed that.

the 1980 malibu looks like the better deal, I'd go with that one
