Why would a fuel pump deleiver pressure for infinity at idle then when you drive it is slowly quits?
Been battling this for too long now. Thought I had it fixed
I installed a ACDelco 19179597 pump in 11-09.
ever since then I have had issues. Starts up fine, runs great, then drive it for a few miles then it dies a slow death.
I dont drive my car anywhere, it has dick for miles.
new items since pump install:
coil, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, filter, regulator, pump relay.
The new regulator was installed and tuned with a fuel pressure gauge at recommended settings.

small internal leak where the pump connects to the output tube. Mine did more than a slow death when that happened, but it didn't want to build pressure right. Maybe run the pump (short the relay so it runs) and watch voltage at the pump for a while.

When it acts up it just quits pumping. I can start it this AM and it will rub fine. _________________

How is the harness going to the pump relay? I have seen many of them pull out of the connector.

Check for power and ground at the tank when the problem occurs. If you have it there's not much else it could be. Because somethings new definatly doesnt mean its any good. I change new parts all the time.

Thats all too true lol id follow his advice and check for power and ground when the problem occurs if its got those its the pump, or the line. I installed my walboro pump and never swapped the line out and it had a minor tear I couldnt see until the line pressurized, it caused the pump to run at max constantly just cycling fuel in the tank with.minimal running to the front.
Keep in mind if your pump is running at max theyve only got a certain run life not sure what it is but say for example your pump is just running and running for x numver of hours, it could burn through its useful life and begin to fail I had a similar issue with my original pump it would run fine then crap out within a few miles swapped it for a delco pump, pump was bad out of the box and had to swap it again
Two lessons packed in one lol PITA to diagnose _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory
