I am tearing out ecm now and all the wires I can. But some seem to be connected to stuff and I don't know what they are. I pulled all the ones that previus owner cut, but some have been hooked up weird so if I can describe and someone can tell me what is, that would be sweet. Also i f someone would let me email them pics so I can post that would be cool also. First one is a relay of some sort. Hanging out in passenger side. Has big fat orange cord that loops into postive side of battery. Other two wires are green with white stripe and brown with white stripe. Those go ??? Right now

Another question is , that I was told on TGO, that if it is connected to. The ecm or MAF harness I can just cut the wires out. Is that true??

It's a lot easier to just mouse over the photo-bucket picture and click the image code, it will copy it for you, then just paste to the forum.

your image code http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb437/jchaussee/utf-8BSU1BRzAyNzkuanBn.jpg will be automatically tagged with [IMG] [/IMG] before and after when you paste to the forum and net you this

From the diagram I have (TPI from 86), the orange goes to the fuel pump relay and fuel pump switch as well as the green w/ white wire. Tan w/ white goes from fuel pump relay to mass air flow sensor. I attached the diagram...it's pretty self-explanitory.

I have that relay I believe up by firewall. Maybe? The one I have pic of is on passenger side towards the front. It has two wires that go into the positve side of the battery. If it is fuel pump relay then I suppose I don't need it and can cut it out. And yes while for a lot of people it may be self explanitory , when I look at diagram I see several orage wires. That is where I get lost. I don't know how to follow correctly. I have a huge chevy shop manual which has a lot of wiring diagrams

#3 kind of looks like the connector for the high pressure switch on the A/C compressor. #7 looks to be the ECM/fuel pump relay fuse which plugs into a weathertight holder next to the battery. The rest I can't make out.

are you putting a carbed engine in? If you're keeping the tpi, you need a fuel pump relay. As for following the wiring diagram, the orange wire is the orange wire, it goes from the battery(always hot) to the fuel pump relay and switch to the ecm.

Orange wire from batt. hot cable going into small black box with another wire coming out is fuel pump fuse holder.

Some more info on what you are actually doing might be helpful. Is this a TPI to carb swap? If so, how are you supplying fuel to the carb?

I am sorry fellas. I didn't explain what was going on. I purchased cae in sept. It already had a carbed 327 swapped into it. The previous owner did all work. I finally took out ecm and pulled harness through fender into engine bay. Has a mech fuel pump. I have already pulled all the wires aside that were already cut. On tgo a memeber said if it was on ecm harness it can be cut out. But a lot of the ecm harness goes behind dizzy to pther side so I am trying to get all those out. I don't like hacking s**t if I don't know what it is. I no longer have ac, but I do have heat. I am just trying to clean up rats nest so I can tuck away other good wire before they get burnt up.

Should not be any wires from ECM to dist. Dist should get two wires, big orange one, and little brown one.

If the dist. has a large weatherpack on it that goes to the ECM then you have James-locked-distributor-itis. Razz

I credit 2 years of high school electronics and currently have a job deciphering German schematics which make American schematics look too simple.
