I actually really like Carolla. His over the top opinionated attitude cracks me up.
This should be interesting. |

Was he the one with the Jwersy accent and the huge mole on his face?
He was the worst of the three, not to mention incredibly annoying. |

No Carolla wasn't in the US Top Gear. Carolla is the guy from "The Man Show" and from "Love Line" before that. |

Yeah, I'll give it a watch, at least it is car guy programing. I won't hold out that it will even touch the three boys from the other side of the pond. The combo of May, Hamster and Jezza, is just a juggernaut that I don't think anything can match.
Edit....and BTW kids, remember that the new season of TGUK starts sunday....get the torrents ready. |

TGUK, the presenters really do work so well together, I think it would be hard to touch the synergy they have. That's one reason (a big one) that I think American Top Gear really did poorly.
Although if you watch some really early TGUK (especially with the fat guy) they really didn't have it together as well as they do now. Even the early episodes with the Hamster were a little lackluster in comparison to recent TG. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I think it's the fact they've had years and years to gain that behavioral meshing. Who knows how long it'll take for the US guys to get close to that, if they ever will. |

Yes, but in season 4 (Hamsters 3rd season) they did the Aston v Train race, that one is still an all time epicly good episode. So, its not like it took them 10 season to build that chemistry. |

I guess I just look at the ability of the host to be entertaining, informative without being biased and funny.
When I watch top gear all I hear is lame dry english humor, inderect feedback about the vehicle and just plain biasedness against US vehicles. Top Gear doesnt let facts get in the way when they test a US vehicle similar to some US rags. They propogate some mythology about european vehicles being superior to US products. The fact is that England and Europe is over populated and requires a different vehicle than what is acceptable to the US consumer. We are not forced to fit our 6'4 frame into a 12' long shizzle box due to inferior roads, huge gas taxes and no parking. |

I watched this On Demand today during lunch. I thought it was a far superior show to the American Top Gear, but that's not saying much.
Carolla's inane humor worked pretty well, and he seemed to have a decent rapport with the guy from Smoking Tire. The only host who didn't make sense was the basketball player. He added nothing aside from being the butt of several racist jokes. |

I watched it, found it entertaining.
But I still love Top gear way more, they actually go through the car and give pros/cons and review the cars honestly.
American top gear, I think is a joke. Its fun to watch just to watch, it has no substance. _________________ 1987 - Trans am GTA, hooker headers, Borla catback, Cat delete, CAI, 9.6 @ 75mph 1/8mile

Time for Canadian Top Gear.
Not sure how well that would work.

I watched it. Salle was a waste of space, between his anti car comments, and lack of any real car guy knowledge. I think it has some potential, they should have only done 2 segments, and spent more time on them. I also thought that having Carola in the back of the Rolls bit made it seem dumb. I wish they had spent more time actually driving the Porsche and giving info about it, and then spent more time at the LeMons race. I think they tried to cram too much into the show, and made the bits all too short to have any real substance.
That said, TGUK has a new show tomorrow, I will be watching that. I'll give the car show a few more watches, hopefully it turns out better. The hosts had better chemistry than the TGUS guys, but they are really lacking in the production quality of the TG cinematography. |
