Found on LSxnation, local forums.

http://lsxnation.net/showthread.php?13781-2001-LS6-engine-complete-26k-miles

Not sure if non members can see the link. 3K for a 2001 Z06 engine with 26K miles on it.

Not a bad price if it comes with the harness and front accessories. All it needs is a cam.

LS1 = new SBC to all these morons.

No mention of mileage or condition, and he's asking way to much.

It's not a great price but that's fairly standard asking price, honestly. You can definitely find cheaper but if you can talk the guy down to 2k (dependent on mileage/condition) it really isn't that bad.

If it has less than 60K miles and is an LS2 (6.0 litre) 2300.00 with all the accessories is a good price. There were several improvements to the LS2 engine and it has more potential than the LS1, not the least is about 50 horses more out of the box.

That's a fair price. Not overpriced.

But I don't think it is right for you. You need F body accessories, F body oil pan, and cable operated throttle body. There are more engines out there just as nice as this but having the right hardware for your swap. In the end it will be cheaper to keep hunting for the right engine.

True, but doesn't hurt to look at it. Can't go wrong with a Gen IV.

There's not a lot special about that engine. It still has 243 heads, same as the earlier Z06 heads. It does not have the LS3 heads like on the current production engines.

If you want a good Gen IV engine then get something with rectangle port heads. The iron truck engines are physically stronger and will make more power when you cam it. Plus you can use the LS3 intake. If you're going to hunt down accessories and oil pan, then it's hard to beat the low entry price of the truck engines.

Sticks n Stones here (again- I'll create my own account soon!) Care to put some money on that boast that a iron engine makes more power than an aluminum one?

The benefits of the LQ9/ cast iron engine is that it can handle another 300 or so rwhp before it reaches it's limits. However, you can upgrade a LS2 block to make way more power then a cast iron LQ9 block for an additional $3k or so along with allowing it to go to 500 cubes. Wink

Need anything else? I'm here all night with LSx info. lol

The comparison I was making was a truck engine with rectangle port heads vs. LS2 with 243 heads because that's what he is looking to buy.

What engine can make the most power before exploding isn't the point. The point is to help guide him to make the most economical decision. Most people on this site are going to stay mostly stock so getting the right parts up front is important. A cam swap is usually the end of the mods because the LSx swap in and of itself is a huge upgrade and expense to modify the car. Any way you cut it though, any LSx is a major leap forward and a real kick in the pants compared to what we have in our cars stock. Very Happy

Either one would be nice, but I would have to go with aluminium because of less weight.

Why is that? The iron 6.0L is almost dead nuts on the same weight as the V8 in your car. If you say, "handling" then you should think strongly about a 4th gen. By starting with a 4th gen you'll have less money into the car overall and it will handle better then anything you can do to that 3rd gen.

Not trying to argue with you. Just want to make sure you know your options. The ONLY reason I am playing with my 3rd gen is because I've had it for 19 years and it is a sentimental thing, it's show car nice, and I don't care about corner carving. I am spending way more to make an LSx swap in the 3rd gen than if I had just used a 4th gen. Most people aren't like me and keep a car that long, no matter what they say their plans are.

I have the 2.8.

A 4th gen would be nice, but I want to try something a little harder. Laughing

I haven't had my 3rd gen as long, but it is sentimental and, I don't see myself getting rid of it. I would prefer the aluminium block, but if an iron block falls in my lap I'll gladly take it.
