so, somewhere in the last few years I have lost my slide hammer, and with it the bolt I found that would thread perfectly into the pilot bushing, so I could yank it out with said slide hammer.
what do you guys use to get out our pilot bushings? the "pilot bushing removal tool" that attaches to slide hammers that auto zone rents is too large to fit into the pilot bushing that is in my car.
I have tried the "grease trick" with limited success (limited to none, in fact) and am not interested in recreating the greasy mess that such a method creates.
do any of you guys have a tool that allows you to remove a pilot bushing? thanks. |

I saw a method on YouTube similar to the grease method. Instead of grease, he used shredded up wet paper. The water in the paper created the same hydraulic effect that the grease does, just doesn't make the mess. It's for a bearing, but should work for the bushing also.
I found it while looking for something to show which side of the pilot bearing goes in the crank (I bought a bearing instead of a bushing since the parts store didn't have a bearing in stock).

Full kit from orielly or autozone has a small enough one.
Otherwise I have a giant tap, somewhere, that threads into my slide hammer. :O)
The "grease" trick has just been a messy headache.
The other way I've done it is very carefully with a chisel and punch. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I have a slide hammer you can borrow if you want, dude.
IIRC To remove the last one I did, used a tap, A bolt and a couple thick washers on the shoulder of the bolt. (I think I used a 5/8x18 tap and bolt?) and attached the slide hammer 3 jaw puller to the bolt and washers and gave it a couple good tugs. _________________
