So ive been chasing down an issue with the car falling flat on its face, luke used tunerpro on the car and it showed error code 35 i believe, forced open loop, and lean condition, swapped my IAC, CTS and my MAP out, car ran decent for a bit and now its being a turd, anytime i go above half throttle without easing into it, the car starts choking and stumbling
Im picking up a set of injectors from Al tonight, going to get one of the sets cleaned and flowtested if the condition doesnt go away, when i did a fuel pressure test i got 11psi on the return line, also today i got error code 32 which i used to get alot in AZ, not since i moved back here though but it popped on my way to work, i was driving down the 16 towards silverdale and i was in 5th, all of a sudden it starts backfiring like im downshifting and on comes the light.... i know my FP readings are in spec but i believe bigdaddyvu mentioned the filters inside the injectors may be clogged, that would cause my lean condition but why the hell would my light come on? and i know that an SES light forces it into open loop but i remember someone saying 32 doesnt do that, something about it being a "ghost code"????
32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve
sooooo... where the heck should i start? Im getting pissed and my wife is gonna kill me if i keep stabbing at random parts lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

it could be a number of things,
is your fuel rail pressure constant or does it drop off when the problems strart? then maybe a pluged up in-tank filter.
fuel pump?
pressure regulator?
it prob. not injectors...
just a thought-the egr valve and the fuel press reg. are both vacumm driven....hummmmmm

You don't check your fuel pressure on the return line.
Fuel pressure needs to be checked after the fuel pump on the feed line, before the regulator. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| Yups. And if it is falling on its face as you give it throttle, you will need to check fuel pressure under load and make sure it isn't dropping off. |

That's the only spot I could get the tbi adapter to fit unfortunately, I couldn't get it up by the intake cuz the adapter was bulky as hell and the inlet line was smaller than the return and didn't thread
Now wait but the be clear the line I think is the return was the upper of the two coming off the front of the intake, which one is that?
My injectors have been thru hell and back which is why I figured id give it a shot since als got extras, and I don't have the fp gauge, I rented it from autozone, when I did the test and hooked it up i did put it under a load with no change in psi it does it randomly which is the pain in the ass part _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

| The feed side is the side that goes into the drivers side of the throttle body. If you got 11psi, you probably did get the feed side. I would think that the return side shouldn't really be pressurized, if it is, then you might have a whole different issue. |

Yup that's the one, so I didn't tap the return lol well if that's the case it acted fine under load so if it is a fuel problem and not a sensor its either my injectors or my regulator correct? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

| Was the car acting up at the time you were testing though? You need to have the gauge hooked up while the problem is occuring. |

Regulator would reflect pressure problems.
I would be suspect of timing based on what you say. Check your base timing and pull the cap and rotor and inspect the tone wheel.
If it runs fine everywhere else, I wouldn't be looking at the injectors yet. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Yeah it was sputtering when I hooked up the gauge, cap and rotor were replaced a few months ago but I haven't looked at my timing yet now that I think of it _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Not all codes will put the ECM in limp home mode. Code 32 is an EGR code. When the ECM commands EGR, it checks manifold vaccuum and intake air temp to see if the EGR valve is open. If the intake air temp hasn't gone up or if manifold vaccuum hasn't changed, code 32 is set. When the EGR is operational, combustion chamber temperatures go down. The ECM may then advance timing since the cooler combustion chamber will allow more timing without detonation. But if the EGR isn't functioning, when the ECM advances the timing, detonation results. The ECM then has to drastically retard the timing to counter detonation. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Egr is operational, pushing on the diaphram while running changes idle, its been swapped a few tmes when 32 came up when I bought the car, sprayed carb cleaner around my engine to check for leaks, nothin, could the IAT be out? And retarding my timing? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Going to check my timing tomorrow, I've got a timing light at work, drove arond tonight with ZERO problems, no choking, sputtering nada..... so I don't think timing is to blame for this one but I believe its playing a role as mentioned above lol I know when the car is gonna act up because if I go up a hill or something and gas it it feels like its missing towards the top end of each gear, none of that happened tonight however, I left silverdale went to al's, drove back to port orchard, came home, went for a drive a few hours later and not one hint of the gremlin that's haunting me.... _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

I am having the same exact problems. They seem to come and go, although a single flat out blast for a few seconds will cause it to happen and it will do it for awhile. It periodically throws me a code 33 as well. S#%t's weak. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

Ouch. I was pretty toasted when I took the transmission and transfer case out of a friends Tacoma to change the clutch. I don't know how I got it out without dropping it six feet, i didnt have a transmission jack at the time I wouldn't honestly recommend the experience unless you really don't care. I'm going the check out my tps for smoothness when i get off work tomorrow I feel suspicious about it. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

Figured it out! Like finally over and done with lol
Clogged injectors, I used the set Al gave me and bought a BWD injector kit, rebuilt the tbi, changed the injector screens and viola! Instant smooth idle, fired on the first crank, amazing throttle response I'm pretty stoked to be honest lol
Now for the hidden oops that comes with every time someone works on a car...
So while rebuilding it I had to disassemble and reassemble the tbi unit like 3 times.... first off like an idiot when I replaced the regulator I put it back on backwards...making a gap... so I had it all together, put my fp fuse back and turned the key through the window and I got sprayed with fuel... hit me on the arm and got some on the floor, and I also figured out at that point that the drivers side injector o ring didn't seat...well it did but it got sliced lol so while I was getting sprayed my intake was busy filling up with fuel >_< tore it down flipped the regulator, replaced the o ring, reassembled and then had to crank thru the puddled fuel, smoked out our shop tons of fun, I noticed my injector filter was so gunked up I culdnt even see thru it like the new ones
Now here's a question; now that my injectors and tbi have been rebuilt should I re time and reset mnimum air? I took it for a spin and just beat the piss out of it, at WOT its got some getup and go then around the middle of the rpm scale it just kicks in with a vengance, reminds me of the turbo lag on the power puke 7.3l fords, my thoughts are I reset timing and minimum air on shotty injectors so its a tad bit off, would it be a good idea to run back through it? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory
