Since I soon plan on having my a-arms out of the car, I'm thinking I could replace my motor mounts at the same time. Looks like ES only offers the calmshell design where I have to drill the stockers apart? Anyone know of some others where I just replace the whole dang thing? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I think he's looking for poly or a stiffer motor mount.
I wonder if they make delrin motor mounts?! _________________

Correct Ian, looking for polys. They do make solids But not something I want for a "daily driver".
I can jack my motor up, had to do that to install the drivers header. |

I've seriously contemplated solids for my car. I think the only reason I haven't is because it's a pain in the arse job.
When I next get in there I'll be going solid. I've had a falling out with poly. |

You've had a poly motor mount fail? Or you talking your control arms?
I see the 4th gen guys, most of them just do a poly driver, and rubber passanger. |

Are you breaking the rubber ones or what is the issue? If its not broke dont fix it. The poly will transfer more vibration through to the chassis. They're supposedly taller as well, which will limit hood clearance and change driveline angles.
The poly trans mount is a good idea because of how crappy the factory mount is, and its actually part of the suspension. But it causes vibration and driveline angle issues as well. Also the trans mount is more likely to get oil soaked and fall apart, which poly wont do.
Chevy factory motor mounts have been built decently for a long time however..probably because in the early 70s they had a major recall on them. Most have interlocking pieces so even if the rubber goes the mount still can't come apart.
I've been reading that racers that actually do have enough power to break factory mounts and have swapped to steel, are finding that using factory side mounts will distort the block and cause all kinds of issues. On these high hp engines they're going to motor plates.. there's some debate one which end of the motor should have them though.
Another method for strengthening is a limiting strap or chain. This is what gm did on those mounts they recalled. |
