Now that I have your attention...

I'm looking for assistance rebuilding/gearing my 9 bolt rear. It's not on the car so it should be easy to work with. I'd like somebody who has set up rear gears before to help so I don't completely f@$! It up. I live in Poulsbo but I'm sure I could borrow a truck to bring it down and get started. I have no idea when I'll be doing this as I'm still waiting on a few parts in the mail. I've got new differential and pinion bearings, ring and pinion gears, and an installation kit coming for it. I'll be putting in a used carrier since my new gears won't fit the one I have. Is there anything else I'll need to do this job?

Dial indicator with a magnetic base and a arm long enough to check backlash/pinion depth.

Might also want to get a variety of carrier shims too.

I have one of those magnetic dial indicators you could use. I was going to try and setup my rear after watching the richmond how to video. I decided, I was in over my head and paid a shop to do it

Your gonna need a press for the bearings, and bearing splitter( I think thats what their called). I reused the 3.73's out of Barts TA and had to pull the pinion bearing to change the shim under it. I bent my 20 ton press a little and finally had to pull the cage and rollers off the bearing and put some heat to it while under pressure, when it let loose it sounded like a gun went off. They can be tight and you need the right stuff. Also gonna need an inch/pound dial torque wrench and these can be hard to come by. The 10 bolt is like 20 inch/lbs and feels way tighter than you'll think it should be. Not sure about the 9 bolt.

bearing splitter, maybe called a bearing puller

Ok, I've got a dial indicator from when I rebuilt my transmission but I do not have a press or bearing splitter. Would it cost a lot to have a shop remove and install the new bearings? On my transmission the shims went underneath the races is that the same with the rear? My dad has an inch pound torque wrench He got for his new crossfire intake for his corvette. Yeah, he had a custom intake made for his '84 corvette. He'd been on a waiting list for over a year for it.

make sure the torque wrench is a dial type and not a clicker.
