Now I have 2 or 3 weeks to clean up the engine bay, maybe get some black paint in there, clean up accessory brackets, clean up the harness and replace lots of the corrugated loom.
And thanks Aaron for the help in pulling this thing out.

After seeing those pics, I was inspired to start organizing my shed...found a bunch of stuff I forgot I even had. _________________

Whether you want your broke-d**k Chevy towed, or your piece of crap 305 removed, I'm the guy to do it.
I think this clutch has probably seen it's last burnout in front of the IHOP.

It wasn't slipping yet, but shifting was starting to get a little difficult. |

The IHOP was at Cows or dyno or something, the Denny's was in Tacoma before the Gig Harbor car show.
I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. Al has burned out in front of many many restaurants. |

You got that right I just got some various sizes of corrugated tubing to replace the pieces that are all cracked and broken, and extend as necessary.
I just tried to clean up the transmission and accessory brackets. Transmission turned out OK, but inside the bell housing is still pretty gunked up, I left it alone.
Simple green does pretty good if you're able to use a scrub brush. I need something to spray on, let foam up and rinse off without much scrubbing. Any ideas?? Those brackets are pretty nasty.
My battery tray has some corrosion in it, but since it's just started, rust is only on the surface. I need to scrub that out, clean it up and paint it with the rest of the bay.
Next, before the new motor arrives, sensors and switches that will transfer over come off, as well as the valve covers (I haven't decided if I'll keep them yet) and water pump. |

Go to the dollar store and buy a bunch of oven cleaner. Works great. Also I think castrol superclean is alot stronger then simple green. |

Cool, thanks. I haven't thought of that. I found out that Super Clean works a little better as I had a little on the shelf in the garage. |

the CSC is what I use. Works, but still needs scrubbed.
For the battery tray, Ive used Permatex rust treatment as the can recommends. Its stopped it for 2-3 years now on my car. Even some spots that were more then surface rust. But if its starting to flake, its had. |

POR15 will kill the rust in the tray and be just about impervious. You would need very very little of it just to do that job though. |

Gasoline actually works okay with a bit of elbow grease, but at this point, oven cleaner is cheaper _________________

Oven cleaner does quite the job. All the cast aluminum brackets look like aluminum now, not perfect, but presentable. Power steering bracket, pump and box were the worst. I only got 2 cans, could have used more, but I think except for repairing some of the harness, the bay is ready for the new motor |

If you have a dollar store to buy from its a very cheap effective method. Learned it from the truck guys. They were using it for cleaning their frames and suspension. |

I received a piece today that will help the transmission survive at least a little longer. This will probably have to be replaced again when I upgrade to T-56, but I feel it's necessary to prolong the life of the T-5.
