The 305 is coming out either tomorrow or next weekend. Today, I unbolted all the accessories, removed the ones that would come out - power steering pump is just move over. I disconnected most of the harness, only a couple of more connectors to go, the ground on the back of the passenger head was a $#@*!!. Headers are disconnected from the Y-pipe, but still attached to the block.
This is where I'm at now...

Good thing I have a new intake coming with the motor, this one probably isn't big enough anyhow. That thermostat bolt snapped off as I tried to loosen it.
I also had to go out and get a T-45 torx for the accessory brackets. I haven't seen torx head bolts used for accessory brackets before. |

GM liked 'em in the 80's.
You get Mike's picker, or you need mine?
I might come up tomorrow, depending on what needs to be done here. I got the Monterey running today, so that's off my plate.
What time you starting? |

I have Mike's picker in the garage, I might need a stand though. Anytime is fine, I'll probobly get started mid to late morning. I still have to unhook some of the harness and unclip it from the block in places. Also separate the block from the tranny, if necessary. |

Stand is full of motor right now.
Pull the trans with the engine. Makes it easier with a stick IMHO. Auto you can prop up and leave in. |

Then I may have to let the car down and roll it back a few feet for room, but I can do that after I get what need disconnected done. Do you have a leveler? I didn't see one with Mike's picker and I didn't think to ask. |

383 TBI with Vortec heads and intake. The builder hasn't decided on a cam just yet, but all pertinent info will be on a data sheet with the motor when delivered. |

Very nice! My uncle has a 383 roller in his 65 Nova. trick flow heads, air gap edelbrock intake. It's a sweet ride. I'm sure you'll be more than happy with yours.

After the new one is in, it "should" look almost stock
I just finished getting everything on the harness disconnected (I hope ). All lines and hoses are disconnected/removed, so all I have to do is undo the mounts and pull. |

I had a water neck bolt snap off in my L03 intake back in the day too. What a PITA! What intake are you gonna run? _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Out with the old....
Now I have 2 or 3 weeks to clean up the engine bay, maybe get some black paint in there, clean up accessory brackets, clean up the harness and replace lots of the corrugated loom.
And thanks Aaron for the help in pulling this thing out.

There was a little water in the oil when I drained it, but not a lot. We took the oil pan off while still on the picker. All the rod bearings seemed OK, no loose ones were evident. The engine definitely had a knock, though. |
