So since I have done the ebl flash mod my car has been running better than ever. But now I'm wanting a wideband for obvious reasons. I don't want a fancy gauge with flashing lights and blinking numbers, I just want the sensor to connect to the ebl so I can data log with it.

I noticed that lots of "kits" come with a bosch sensor and that got me thinking. I run a parts store and we sell bosch sensors, could a stock wide band air/fuel sensor from a new audi or toyota be made to work? I mean it is just a standard 5 wire wide band sensor. And I sell 1 of these things for only $50. Bosch 17014.

Thoughts?

I figured that when the time comes, I'll go ahead and get the one RBob sells on his Dynamic EFI site. EBL is already set to use it (others can be easily used also) and it doesn't need any open air calibration. I'm not real worried about a gauge, but his looks like it will output to one rather easily.

Everyone I've seen (the innovate I ran and the arm my buddy ran) were off the shelf bosch o2s. The controller/converter thing is what's funky.

I know the AEM setup comes with a resisted O2 so you don't have to calibrate it. Each one comes pre calibrated.

There is a controller needed though.

Not sure about the EBL ask RBob, he might have it setup to have a built in controller so you can just hook straight to it.

Or get the AEM setup for a little over $200 IIRC and it has an ECM output and you get a nifty gauge.

RBob has a controller for his too. Looks pretty simple to wire up. User manual has a link in this page.

Jake, I think you've just convinced me to wire my wbo2 back into the car through the stock ecm. Thanks for adding to my wiring work. Mad

I've had the AEM for a little over a year now without a problem, except for girls asking "what the heck is that for?" then I go into detail about modding the ECM and stuff and they think im a geek... BUT, it works great. lol

EBL has AEM programmed in its list of ADC channel inputs, among a few others. If a device is not listed, it can be added and programmed for input.

I see, so the sensor itself does not provide 0-5 volts that the ebl reads. The sensor needs to have a controller that acts basically as a converter. The controller is what has the 0 to 5 volts output. Damn, I thought I was on to something there. Lol

Way to dash my dreams.

Oh and ian you are crazy. I can't believe you are basically making a entirely new harness for your ls. I don't know anyone who wants to wire one up once, let alone twice!

I made the harness for my motor. Looking at another one.

I was hoping a stock one from a flex fuel car would work just like 83z was wanting Sad

It's easier than it seems, Jake. Smile Just patience as long as you can get a hold of the proper diagrams. Most people would say the same thing about you and your factory styled A/C installation!

There are a couple of articles on wide band o2 sensors. The reading of the sensor is fairly complex, not at all like the narrow band stuff. The output depends on temperature, age, and some other stuff, that is why they need a controller.
