I've been doing lots of research on spring rates and suspension setups for our cars and there's a few options so I want your guys opinions. I want something that's not too harsh but will compliment my soon to be installed 36/23mm sway bar combo.
Lots of people really like factory ws6 springs or the moog equivalent for the front and the progressive rate "cargo" springs for the rear. Others swear by the Eibach Pro Kits. Any suggestions? _________________ '91 Firebird - LO3, 700R4, 2.73 gears

I like the stock WS6 springs I bought from Brandon. I cut 1/2 coil out of each. The ride is a bit rough, but handles pretty good. Shocks/struts also have a lot to do with ride handling, I have the Tokico Illumina adjustable, not as good as Koni, but I like them. _________________ 92 Camaro

| I agree with you al. Also don't forget weight. My 1550lb front end when I had the v6 was very rough with around 600lb in springs. |

| I also saw the Vogtland springs that are progressive front and rear. Their rates are 336-628lbs front and 183-228lbs rear. Not as high as WS6 springs but they seem like they would ride well and still handle nicely. The few people I can find that have used them seem to like them. |

| I like my rear progressives. They would be a better compromise if thats what you are going for. You need to get the height you want cause you don't want to trim a progressive much. |

It seems that, price wise, the Moog replacements in WS6 rates are the way to go. I've also read that, like Al, cutting 1/2 a coil off gives just the right amount of lowering. _________________ '91 Firebird - LO3, 700R4, 2.73 gears

You'll have to drive it around for a while and see where the springs settle at. I started out only taking a 1/4 off at a time, both Front and rear. Fronts are down 1/2 coil (and I still think it should go another 1/4 coil), and rear's are down about 3/4" coil. You can go a bit lower that most other people since you have no GFX, so your only big concerns will be the front X-member and possibly your exhaust and air dam.
I'm still strongly considering the "Ground control" kit like DBL_TKE (Skyler) and Dewey have, if I go lower. _________________

I've got 3/4 cut off the front of my stock Iroc springs, and something like a coil and 1/4 in the back. I don't think mines harsh at all. Good shocks are a must.
Always cut a little, with a cut off wheel (no torch), and then install and drive for TWO WEEKS to allow the springs to settle. Do this before deciding it's not low enough, etc. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| Alright, good info guys. Thanks! I'm collecting the suspension parts I want and then I'll install them all at once. I just need springs/dampers and some SFCs and I'm ready to get to work. |

Are the IROC springs the same rates as WS6? _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

| Irocs are stiffer then WS6. Chevy thought stiff springs and soft sway bars were the way to go.. Pontiac thought opposite. |

For reference...I run something like 875/225 with 36/24 bars. It is all a matter at preference at some point, and how stiff of a ride you want. I think the pro-kit spring rates are pretty good for a off the shelf kit. I like their rates better than the sportlines.
As Paul said. Good shocks are a must with the stiffer springs. |

I'm running 800/200 and 36/21 sway bars on my Z28. Not harsh by any means. It handled pretty damn well with some KYB adjustable shocks and struts. There were a couple of times where I wished I had gone stiffer but that was only on the race track. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S
