I sold the Camaro SS! And I made a good profit, too! Very Happy

That means I've got cash in my pocket again.... and I'm looking around for my next purchase. Laughing

LS3. Wink

Glad to hear you got some bucks out of that SS, Jon. Making money on cars that are on the wrong side of the value scale can kinda go south on you. Or you could just end up like me and continually lose money on all cars no matter what. Razz

That was my exact strategy for a decade before I stopped spending money on hot rods.

I am looking at used engines at various sites. A 408 or 427 LS engine is on my wish list.

Corvette values are at rock bottom and the economy is picking up Very Happy

Check out the LSx forums, LS1 GTO, Modern camaro.com and the GTO forums. These guys go through hard parts like a hot knife through butter.
There is a local guy ( Seattle area) that has been trying to sell his C5 Z06 for a year and half. It has a built 408, clutch, upgraded transmission, tune, headers etc, and after market diff. Last I heard he would take 16K for it. I saw the car put down 500+ HP and TRQ on TT in Tacoma ( stingy dyno) 3 months ago. The car isnt perfect per typical corvette owner standards, but is clean in my opinion. Look for a grey, lowered and Fiske rimmed car on LSX nation. My brother keeps trying to talk me into buying it. He would love to have it but his 6'6"+ frame doesnt fit in it.

Another car that will gain value would be a G8 GXP or even a regular V8 G8. There is a damsel in distress on LSx nation ( local chick) who just went through a divorce and her new boyfreind refinanced her G8 into his name. She has 3 kids, her boyfreind isnt into cars, we all know how this will turn out, that car will be offed soon for a decent price.

Ya, I've noticed that Corvettes are going for less. That's good news if I want one for myself, but not good news if I want to quickly flip for profit. I also have to be in a lower price range because I'm a cash buyer and don't want to spend over $10K.

I don't think I'm going to flip an F-body again. The prices are dropping like a rock just in the last few months and it doesn't have a broad set of buyers. And frankly, outside of the engine, the cars are total junk and it was difficult just to keep it problem free long enough to sell. I just did a no reserve auction search at ebay for all cars within 500 miles and I found some interest "near luxury" cars and SUV's. I'll watch those and see where the prices go.

With gas prices going back up, I would stay away from the suv's unless you can get it smoking cheap.

Yes, absolutely. There's a lot of dumb people out there. They panic and will spend $20K on an econo car to save $100 per month. If people would just buy something they could afford in the first place and not have car payments as a life style, then higher gas prices wouldn't tip over the scales on their home budget.

One thing I learned with the Camaro flip is to not sit on a car for top dollar. Once I put it below blue book I sold it in a week. I've got to get my cash in and out quickly and use it to make more money. That redefined what I'm willing to pay for a vehicle and hopefully I'll do better next time.

QwkTrip, check this out. 10K for an 05 GTO and a 408 long block. Drop a junk yard LS2 in it, sell the GTO for 15K and walk away with a 7500 dollar long block for a couple grand.

I know but this is a good deal. My brother told me about this guys dilema, he is hurting for cash. If I was single I would be there snatching it up. When my bro told me about it I offered up my truck and a car trailer.

I think I just retired from my short career buying and selling cars. I have a perfect record and I'd like to keep it that way. Very Happy

I'm now focused on completing the Firebird. The Camaro I just bought is the drivetrain donor car. I've got enough money tied up in the Camaro now. Besides, a roller car is not the kind of flip project you hand somebody with an established record of not following through. Laughing

Thumbs up Cool man. Good to see some progress on that thing. I will be following the LS install so keep us posted please. When I replaced the L98 with the first 383 we considered LS but at that time they were still relatively new more expensive than they are now. It is an outstanding platform and I would love to go this route myself at some point.
