ok so im finally starting an engine tear down and rebuild for a class in school after getting hosed from my welding class. i have a few questions about the casting numbers and the stamp numbers. i know alot of you guys have more info and resorces on this kind of stuff accourding to a book here the engine is a 327 out of a high performance 67-69 Camaro or Corvette but im not shure so heres the numbers
casting #3914678
theres 2 diff stamped numers on it one above the other
stamp #1. 18J131554
#2. VI0095F
i just started the class today and this is an engine that has sat out back and is kinda frozen up but in the class we take it and redo everything on and in the engine, including baking it out.
on a side note whats the easiest way to get it spinning again before i go have the instructor help me and in turn i feel like an idiot lmao
thanks guys and as always any HELPFULL info is appreciated _________________

It is fun !! lol tyhats whats so weird about it i've NEVER had "fun" in a school enviorment. But after last term i'm taking it at a diff angle now especially that almost all my classes have my wanted career in mind now.
On another note i'll be looking up the head codes tomarrow i see on one of the links they have a breakdown of those to next term is the upper engine this class is for the lower engine. so if anyone has some decent heads your wanting to get rid of let me know but thats next term and its a wase away yet. i just cant wait to have an engine built buy me in my Firebird |

I think Mangus has been trying to unload some 305 heads, but he's north of Seattle. He might still have them. _________________ 92 Camaro

Greg, they are all 4" bore blocks, that is why they are all the same casting number.
If you have the crank, you can always measure the stroke, that will tell you for sure what the displacement is. |

| The stroke is the difference between those 3 motors. The block and bore is the same for all of them. Either measure the stroke, get #s off the crank, or get the stamping suffix. You can make any of those motors or a 383 just by using the right crankshaft. |

Not going to get the crank out if the pistons are glued to the walls.
Get a gabage can, put stand engine on end and put in can, fill can with diesel and let sit for a few days/years. |

| ok i've been going through past posts looking for the old and many threads about "what would you build " enginewise, and frankly iom bored with sifting through lol anywho this is a school prodgect and soon it will be hitting the school shop so i can work on it there in class. The instructer knows its seized and he said we should more than likly get it unseized i have the cam and lifters moving just not out although i have most of the lifters out . this is an engine from 68 and may have to put sleeves in but i hope not. but any who what are your guy's suggestions on building this 307' 327' or 350 what ever it is lol i have to pay for the parts just none of the machining and labor of course. i was looking at rolling asseblies on Summit.com and wow lol . im just doing lower engine this term so crank, cam, any lifters to i think . |

lol aand prob a crank to
i guess what i was kinda asking is if you can do the same to any of these sizes as you say its all inthe stroke so does that mean its all in the crank and rods ? and the blocks are all the same ? |

| Blocks are all the same and so are the rods. The difference is all in the crank and the pin height of the pistons. If you're going to buy a new crank, go for the cubes and build a 383. If what you have is salvageable, just fix it and run what ever it is. Highly doubtful its a 302, 327s are good fuel efficient motors that make nearly the same power as a 350, but a bit less torque. Of course you allready know about 350 and 383s. |

thanks Brandon you answered my question to a T . But if i build a 327 you wont be the only one and as long as its better than my 305 i'll be happy i"d like to have around 350-400 hp in the end but i hear its all in the heads and cam but the heads aernt this term . i will eventually let everyonw know what i decide. _________________
