bought a used unit with gears for my 91.

bought the posi unit only, not the complete rear end.
If I have to I will find one later.
However will thsi fit the 91 rear end?
its 28 spline, so that ok.
anything else?
It hasn'y got here yet, maybe around the 8th. coming from back east.
what ya all think? price wasn't to bad anyway.
thanks |

I'm using one. As long as you dont lift a tire from the pavement they work good. If one tire has no traction at all then it won't posi. |

Auburns wear out quick and need additives. Eatons need the attitives but are much stronger and more durable.
The torsens are good and don't need any additives because they are all gear. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Paul mentions additives.. which reminds me, do NOT use synthetic with a torsen. The binding of the gears in it is what causes it to posi. If you use synthetic it won't bind..
And on the part about lifting a wheel, the factory torsens lose traction. Aftermarket ones like the brute force are preloaded with springs to stop that from happening. |

thanks for the input.
it came today, looks interesting has some spiral cut gears in the inside.
no clutches/
will be interesting to see how it works, may go after market next, we will see.
got pull the tank to do a fuel pump, will do the rear then.
As far as lifting a wheel I don't plan on flying yet, maybe in a couple years
lol.........I don't have my pilot license yet......
thanks much |

I think Dan(alloy) had the problem with lifting a wheel on the autocross course. When it happens you lose power to the ground. All depends on what you're using the car for. |

Yes I did have problems with it. With the race tires on and lifting the tires in a corner or on the road course it acted like an open diff. Great on straight lines, and on the street you can get into some corners where it acted open also. But I put one in our astro van it worked perfect there.
I hope my trac lock doesn't do that on me. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

So, Iam wondering if, just the transfer of weight on the rear, will effect the posi ?
I envisioned the tire, coming of the ground, when the posi effect stopped.
But now I am thinking just weight transfer, will stop the posi turning?
Will the car drift? With full posi?
Can I have it set up to where it’s a bit tighter?
what type of oil, or what weight does anybody recommend .
I guess I could save it, get a different type, Just wanted to run it hard, at some point.
As far as, oil how bout the 90 wt purple ???
thanks

I believe Dan was actually physically lifting a tire off the track in the corners. If I remember right there was even a picture. I've never had that issue with my torsen but don't do that kind of driving. On gravel in a tight corner it will definatly posi, as I spin my inside tire.
Nothing much you can do to stock torsen to prevent that. The aftermarket has added some springs to pretension theirs. The posi effect on these is caused by the worm gears binding in the housing. That's why you can't run a synthetic. No binding.. no posi action. Just use a good dino 80-90wt oil.
If you ever play with one of these installed. When you lift it off the ground it totally acts as an open diff. There's no way to tell its not without opening the cover. |

sorry to bring back a dying thread but does anyone know the P/N for the proper 28 spline axles? i picked up a torsen when i was down in az and ive got a set of 3.23 richmond gears i got off TGO, never got around to putting it in though because i couldnt find the proper axle length, and i was hoping to do a PBR set on the rear axle buuuuuut that fell thru too lol
