Hi everyone….

bought a Jacobs coil, but now there accel.
It on my burbon maybe causing a power miss, under power.
I think maybe Its how I hooked it up?
I have the two wire gm connectors red and white wires. I cut them off.
I put both reds together, and both whites together then put those to the
plus and minus on the coil.
is that right??
no instructions in box or on the web anymore, use to be.
I wonder if this is my miss under power?
just did a engine swap, 88 tbi burbon, darn thing runs very good.
except that.
new plugs, wires, headers,
gaped the plugs at .042, to much?
mis can be intermittent.

thanks
Scott

I have not had any luck with any accel parts. I'll leave it at that.

Miss under power can be anything in the secondary ignition. Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil. New doesnt mean much anymore either. I'd lean towards wire or plug myself, but coil is possible. A high power coil will find the weakness in a wire or plug much easier too.

Iam thinking not.
But could be wrong.

That gm conectors got to red and two whites. Any imput on the instalation or wireing it in.

Both Red go to coil + and both white go to coil -.

Coil MUST be bolted down. If it's floppy or a bad ground, sometimes the spark will arc between the coil housing and a ground.

I had one of the newer Jacob's Ultra Coils for a few years. It went to shizzle on me. Caused the MSD to fry some capacitors too.

Vert- He didn't say anything about the Accel brand. Wink

I gap mine at .045 with an MSD coil. So .042 should be fine.

Check your plugs. Could be lots of things causing the miss. I wouldn't go after the coil first.

Jacobs got bought out by Accel. I will second the fact that every Accel product I have ever used has been complete garbage, but I have never used any of the newer Jacobs/Accel stuff, so I won't dump on them necessarily.

ya I bought the Jacobs because it was pretty.....
but when it got here it was black, and had an accel sticker on it.
I was pissed, I wanted the blue........ya that's why.
I could not get a blue Ano one, (dang it)

but I did have one before, on the 88 vert, and it's still in use today, but on a ford big block, old truck.......

I'm thinking its a bad ground! will see.
either that or I cracked another plug putting them in, the new headers are a pain on #6 and #5 cracked the last bosh platinum tip, switched to Auto light plain old reliable plugs, but still could have cracked it.

not to change the subject but::::::
Its really cool to see all the same people after two years....I love it.
its Awesome. like a family sort of.....
I'm really impressed......
makes me smile.....
I hope you all are doing this 20 years from now, If I'm alive, I still will be asking Questions.........
This site and its members are truly a wonderful thing.
no joke!
thank you

ok back to my coil...

Wow didn't know Jacobs was bought out by Accel.

Coils just seem to be crap anymore. No one AWESOME coil like the old square jacobs anymore. I got the LAST made in the USA MSd blaster 2 coil I could find! They are all over sees now.

Pertronix had to switch to overseas as well. They tried not to, but it got so that there was no US supplier any more. They say they try to keep strict quality control on them however. I had good luck with the Flamethrower I bought last time.

Last I looked, hypertech had the highest voltage.

I dunno where all the parts are made. Seems hardly anything is made in USA anymore Sad

Voltage isnt the only answer.. and can cause alot of problems. It's harder for the wires to contain. Some coils put out alot of amperage for a much bigger spark. That was one of the nice things with the old jacobs coil. If you didnt use it with an msd box, it actual had a voltage limiter, but increased amperage with load.
