So I have not had good luck with dash speakers in my car.
1. Had factories when I got it.
2. Installed some pioneers… They didn’t mount properly. Also when the windshield was replaced and the rust was wire wheeled off the debris flew down and seized them up.
3. Bought some cheap 3.5’s and 1” doams and made an adapter plate. Now one of them is blown.
4. Was given some 4x6 when I got my deck, the magnet is to big.
What are some low watt, small magnet, that mounts right speakers? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I put some Pioneers in and they're still going strong. Been close to 4 years. No problems mounting wse.
Had a nice set of Eclipses in my old car that worked great.
Before the Pioneers I had some infinity plate speakers.... those rotted out from the sun in less than a year. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I've always had to custom mount my Camaro in-dash speakers. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I have Pioneers and they sound pretty good. But I had to custom mount them too. I just put screws into the metal where they were required, not hard. They barely clear the damn heater thing on the one side though. |

I had pioneers for probably 15 years. They were still good when I pulled them out and fit perfectly. I wanted to upgrade to some plate speakers however. These took some cutting of the defroster duct to get to fit. |

i have a set of polks in right now, i cahsed in on circuit city goin out of business, my only issue is they came horribly close to my cluster and the magnet was touching the PCB making everything but my speedo dance with the bass when i put the volume up over 20 lol i just used some brass .... fittings? i guess they would be, i just rummaged through my dads unorganized junk organizer and used them to space it up about an eighth of and inch havent had any problems with the fronts since _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Get a heat gun and a block and you can deform the HVAC ducting to make the speaker magnets fit.
I ran Polk's in my IROC and was not particularly impressed with the sound, but they were cheap. |

I've got Alpines in one of mine. The sound is great. I've also ran the Polk/Momo's...there the high end brand of Polk. It was a 2" mid 3/4" tweet on a plate. low magnet....excellent sound. Of course in my other 3rd gen I pulled out the dash speakers and made door panel pods for my 6" mid and 1" tweet and then put the cross over for these in the stock location. |

Aaron, I guess I could do that since I dont have ac anyway But thats not how I like to do things. But I might if its just a hair off. If its more then 3/8 or so, I'll find new speakers.
Gonzo, you have more green then me. And since this is a vert I dont want to put tooooo fancy of crap in it as we have plenty of theifs in the area. |

yeah the polks arent anything special, but with CC goin out of business and my factory ones being crap i decided to step it up...unfortunately its a studder step, when they finally crap out on me ill go with something better but they dont sound too bad with my pioneer deck, hopefully ill be able to get an amp to make them a bit better, and finally install subs in the box ive had for years, i made it and its just been sitting lol unfortunately im putting more money into the drivetrain and body for now lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

For years I thought I had crappy speakers and amps.. Tried several sound quality still sucked. During that time I'd used 3 different pioneer decks. Always liked them. Well.. then I bought an Eclipse deck, the same amp and speakers I thought were crap suddenly came alive.
Polks used to be an awesome speaker.. and they used to be made in the USA.. |

ok, the speakers I have are Eclipse se8465a, and are too deep. Sometime when I have time and cooler weather I'll take the dash back apart and see how far off it is. |

used to be lol who knows maybe its my deck, it was like 200 back in 08, i had it in my brothers lancer while he was in Iraq and it sounded amazing, the only thing i can think of thts different is his amp, its just the cheap mitsubishi amp that comes factory, he had the stock speakers in, i swapped them out for some kickers i got for free and it got a bit better, i should have taken the speakers back and put them in the camaro before he sold it lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Bringing this back to the top.
I took the dash apart because it flat quit working rather then just rattling.
On the drivers side, its the insturment cluster in the way, so heat gun wont work.
Went to look for some 3.5".. Guess thats almost an obsolete size now, all they had them in were polks with a 2" depth, so that wont work.
Have some kenwood 4", but now I have to create a whole new mounting plate. Hopefully they sound good because they didnt have any of these on the sound board. |

I just fitted a pair of Boston Acoustics #746 4X6" plates .
these are NICE speakers and with a little fussing on the drivers side u can make these fit no proplem.
so i hope this helps, cause i just replaced my old sony plates with these BA.
