I'm getting some new tires next weekend on the 2nd gen. If these were totally old school with the big white block letters like firestones or something I'd put white letters out. But they're outline letters. This is kind of an old school re-creation, so white letters make sense for the period. But I just think outline letters are more 80s.. Anyway, i'm going back and forth. These arent really name brand tires, but at least they don't say anything totally obnoxious either.. lettering says Grand Prix Performance GT.

And here's the car

In the absence of true white letters, white outline letters are better than just plain black.

That car needs some white on the tires for sure. I'd say put the block letters out. Very Happy

At first I was very disturbed that you were considering white lettering. After all it is one of the gaudiest things you can do to a car. But then I scrolled down and saw the car..... and I became a believer. It would be a perfect compliment to the current theme. And seriously, how lucky can you get with the words?!?! I mean, the greatest redneck in the world would be happy with the words "GRAND PRIX" or "PERFORMANCE GT". But it's like you died early and went to heaven to find "GRAND PRIX PERFORMANCE GT" all on the same freaking tire.

I voted for black walls. Once the car is all painted up you'll be glad you did.

Actually told the guy black wall out, but now i'm waffling. Just ordered seat covers too.. thinking maybe I should have kept with the theme there too and got sheepskin! Laughing

BTW both of those would have matched my highschool 68 velle!

On that car, (regardless of paint condition) I'd vote white letters out. Can you paint the centers of the outlines solid white and have it actually stay?

If they were solid white I would have wavered towards showing the lettering, but the block outline just reminds me of an 80's truck. Razz

I rarely think white letters look good with the rare exception being NASCAR inspired Lagunas/Malibus/Cutlasses etc. I guess if you are going for a stock/old school vibe go for the white letters. Otherwise... Tisk tisk

Ya, thats what i'm afraid of. I like the white letters, but don't think I like these white letters.

Old school tires look to be getting rare locally as well. This was Les Schwaabs only set.. stuck out back in the warehouse.. Everything else was commuter tires, or for big wheels.

if they were solid white, I'd say white letters out.

I voted accordingly.

Go for some BFG Radial TA's. They looks plenty old school and have sweet white letters. They are what is on Betty and i personally love the look. it helps break up the big black sidewall.

I have never had a set of BFG tires that have lasted as long as the tread. I've bought 2 brand new sets of 4.. had 2 tires in one set break cords, and 3 tires in the 2nd set break cords. I bought 2 bfg tires for debs car, they've started cupping for no apparent reason.. think the cords may be shot there now too. And there are 2 tires I got used on the red car now, both of them are cupping. I'll stay away from BFG.

I do like Dunlop GT qualifiers though, several sets that last real well. And good traction. I also had a set of Firestone Firehawks I liked, they had good lettering too.

However, I'm stuck with these do to financing anyway. I've read that several sizes of even the Radial TAs are no longer made or are on permanent back order. 295/50s have been backordered for several years now. They used to make a 305 and 315 too.. no longer. Seems 275/60s are the widest tire last I heard, and that they may be going away as well. Everyone has changed to 17-20" wheels.

I think i've made my mind up on the letters. I just dont like the lettering on these, so black wall out. Thanks Aaron... Wink
