I just wanted to say Chevrolet Saddle tanks are a pain to remove and install
That is all carry on lol.....
Had to pull both tanks out of my 86 Chev since they both have holes in them now.
2 new tanks 2 new senders and all new lines.
Should be able to pack a lot of fuel now. Oh well cant afford to fill them both at once anyways though.
Chevrolet in their infinite wisdom thought they would install plastic shields over the tanks which in turn just fill with dirt and water making mud that sits under the tanks and rusts them all out. _________________

| Been there.. Gotta say that if I was changing both tanks on my own truck, i'd very much look at pulling the bed off. Usually a customer though is just as happy with a single good tank now on their old beater. |

When I was putting my S10 together the bed came on and off several times. Things like fuel lines and exhaust tend to be a lot easier from the top. Although taking the bed off becomes less attractive on a fullsize, when you need more than you and a buddy to lift it off.
BTW, the plastic skid plate on Chevy tanks always confused me as well. Now my F-150 had a steel skid over a plastic tank. That made sense. |

Well removing the bed wouldn't help much in this situation since most of the tank is under the cab as well. Only the fill and small amount of tank are under the bed. Wouldn't be so bad but the senders are 3 line senders so it is a pain to get them all hooked up. I have seen and worked on worse though i guess _________________

Senders right behind the cab though It just happens to be exactly between the cab and the bed. Where everything falls down and collects, rusting right through the steel lines! Been there too.
I also like the brackets that have to be completely removed from the frame to drop the tank, instead of just loosening the bands. Lots of screwy engineering.
The whole exploding thing was a load of bs though, as the saddletanks were a step up in safety from having the load of liquid explosives sitting behind you with 4" of foam padding protecting you. |

I changed a tank from under the truck ONCE.
The rest had the bed removed or tilted to the pass side. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

hmmmm well it is worse then I thought.... Two new senders and tanks along with all new lines from senders to the line hook up....... run to station put in a few gallons in the drivers side and all is well. Ah this is great run to the station again and FILL UP the passenger side. Leave and drive a couple of miles only to find a LEAK...... Apparently the fuel leaks out in the transfer switch area ONLY when on the passenger side tank. Drivers side is all good. Only thing I can figure is that I have another hose or something with a split on the transfer switch. At least it will now HOLD the fuel instead of leaking it out of the rusted holes in the tanks. Were getting somewhere just very slowly lol. Gonna get under the truck tomorrow and fire it up on the passenger side tank and see where the leak is coming from since it will only leak while the engine is running. _________________
