No not the club! The track lol! I took my car to the strip last Friday for the first time. I'd never been there-let alone raced. Turned out great though-I didn't break anything lol. But my times were horrible. Especially for being a 383. Guess I just suck at driving. First run was a 16.9. I let off wayyy before the end of the track cus my mom was screaming to slow down lol. Next one was a 16.3. Then I ran a 18.0. I launched hard and spun into 4th gear. The last run was the best. Ran a 15.7. Had horrible reaction and 60 foot times though. I'll get up the time slip from the best run tomorrow hopefully. What should I be running? I have a 383 and a 5 speed.

Need to know a whole lot more about your combo to know what it should or shouldn't be doing. You should post up a complete time slip and that will tell a lot more as well. 383's come in a forms from boat anchors to 7 seconds.

Yeah I didn't have a choice for the tires. Mom bought them when it had the old motor in it. Only time she's ever gotten to drive it lol. They are bf goodrich premier touring or something like that. I wasn't expecting much out of the motor, but I expected a little more than that. On this run the tires were spinning through first so I shifted into second a little early and got traction about halfway to third gear. I dropped the clutch at about 1500 rpm. Launching off idle made the clutch slip really bad all the way down the track so I decided not to try that anymore. I like my legs. Any advice?

Just thought I'd give an update! I went a second time last friday...nothing broke, but my valves needed to be readjusted by the end of the night. Not a big deal. Ran a best of 15.08 with a 2.7 second 60 ft. I had some bad wheel hop, but at least this time it hooked up. I got the valves done today and changed out the carb gasket cus it was kinda leaky. Wow what a huge difference. It feels so much faster now. Lookin forward to the next trip-hopefully I'll break 14s lol. I raced my friend with a 2000 Camaro and he spanked me. He ran a 14.03 on only his third pass. Made me kinda mad lol but oh well. Next time.

Was your mph any better that last time? 95 mph is only about 200 - 210 rwhp. What is the specs on the engine? Did you build it? Do you know for a fact if it is stroked? Alot of people really talk engines up when they're selling them.

Yup mph is up to 97.74. I built it so I know for sure its a 383. Actual cubes are 388 according to the machine shop balancing readout. I'm running a spreadbore Holley some where between 600 to 650 cfm. Need a new one big time. Weiand intake. Accel plugs and wires but wires need to be redone. Pertronix hei rebuild kit including cap, coil, rotor, etc. Heads are stockers from a 72 camaro, only has the larger valves installed, no porting or polishing. Cam is a major unknown however. Its something I want to upgrade soon to something bigger. All I know is that the machine shop measured the lift at .480. I adjusted the valves and replaced the carb gasket today and the butt dyno says its faster so I guess we'll see next trip. Let me know what else you may need and I'll try to remember lol.

There's some serious horsepower missing. My mild 327 runs just over 14 @ 98mph when its running good. Dyno'd 227rwhp.

MPH is your indicator of hp. ET is an indicator of how well your car is set up. With that new mph your still only looking at high 13s maybe.

As much info as you can supply would be helpfull to figure out where the power went.

Seems to me around .480 lift is pushing it on those heads. They likely don't flow enough to take advantage of a bigger cam. That big of a cam may actually hurt your area under the curve to make your strip times slower than with a smaller cam. Need to have a matched set of parts to make a good motor. Not just throw the biggest cam ever in it.
