Even though I havent finished my last upgrade, I'm not overly pleased with the results. I'm itching for the next one... 3 choices...
1. Cam. I dont know what cam I have. The rest of the motor is very very similar to that of the zz4 crate motor. So thinking zz4 cam? Claim is easy 300hp.
2. T56. I have a worn out t5. I have a 4l60e and almost everything needed to go in, but everyone else keeps saying keep it stick (yet, seems hardly anyone knows how to drive stick)
3. Turbo. I have a friend with some experience in this, kinda debating it so all my rides are boosted. But with weak t5, and unknown cam, I think this is my least likely, but possibly funest? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

| I say go in this order: t56, cam, turbo. That way you fix your tranny problem before adding more power. Then you can get a cam that will work well with the turbo. At least thats my $.02. Anyway you go it should be fun though! |

T-56. Single best thing I did to my IROC.
If you turbo it you'll blow up the T-5 anyway, and as townaj said you'll need a better than stock cam. |

I say T56 also.
Then if you do it, go turbo. Your stock cam should do OK with a turbo, until you upgrade to a turbo specific cam grind.
With cam's, what makes power for N/A motors, isn't always ideal for boosted applications. You want to avoid overlap with a boosted cam, so all the boost pressure goes into the cyl, instead of out the exaust pipes.

Depends on how many fun tickets you have to invest. You already have a manual transmission so installing a 6 speed will not be a new experience.
Adding a turbocharger will be fun until your tranny grenades along with your rearend.
It all depends on what you want out of your ride, but a large cam with a decent set of heads will be fun with either transmission. |

ok, so most are saying T56.
Now, questions on that.
1. Is the VSS ran off a gear, or reluctor ring? Or will this depend on the year I get.
2. From readings. I have to replace everything. Flywheel, hyd ram, shifter, make a crossmember. Am I correct on this? |

It's a reluctor ring. I think Alloy mods tailshafts to accept a gear/cable assembly?
If you run the LT1 t56 you'll have to replace your clutch/fly. I think Paul used the LS1 style with an adapter and kept all his thirdgen stuff, although he had to shorten the drive line an inch or so. _________________

Crossmember: buy from somebody with better ground clearance than Spohn.
If you already have the T-5 setup in your car, it would be silly not to go with an LS1 unit, since you can keep your clutch, hydros, ect.
Your '91 should have an electronic speedo IIRC, so you will simply need a converter box from Dakota Digital. |

So your saying if I go with 98-02 style, I can keep my fly and clutch that I have now? But I have to shorten the driveshaft?
Cross member, I will make my own because the spohn I have now sucks ass.
I will not need a converter box for my vss since I am running an LS1 pcm But I wanted to make sure it was reluctor ring as cruse does not work well with gear driven. |
