well it seems im going to be pushing the limits of the 4spd overdrive auto in my ram,so im debating on either sending it out to wayne at APS for a race rebuild and converter,or.. finding a NV4500 5spd manual and converting my truck over to a manual,NV4500 is pretty much bullet proof{built for the 3500 dually's and one ton deisels}
this WILL be a wheeling rig,meaning its going to be flogged on constantly in sand,mud,anything in my damn way!
im looking at it a few ways... auto is a bit easier on driveline components{although that diminishes with a hard hitting convertor and shift kit}
manual gives more control,but is harder on drivetrain
either way right now,the transmission right now is the weakest link in the drivetrain,with either a builtup auto,or nv4500...the drivetrain should be able to take one hell of an assbeating...guess it all comes down to preference,but id like to hear a few opinions,and why.
also keep in mind,44" boggers{or some 40s if the trade works out},5.12 gears |

| My cousin had a D*dge Cummins that was turned up quite a bit and he had to have his 5 spd manual rebuilt once. He also drove like a grandma. Don't know if it was the same tranny that your talking about though. Personally I like having an auto in my pickup, manuals are fun but the truck trannys just suck to shift in my opinion.If you drive in alot of traffic then I would take the auto any day. |

ive heard of the problem rodney,seems to be more prevalent in the deisels then the gas trucks,vibration aparently shakes the bearings or something internally...
most of the non dually,2500s got the NV3500,which is strong,but its like comparing a reg T5 to a gforce T5{from what ive read and been told}
upon checking into the manual swap some more,it apears the harness has to be swapped over,as does a few other things like PCM and shizzle...so,im jsut gonna stay auto with a 2800 stall |
