ok so ill start from the begining. about 3 years ago when i lived in seattle my brothers friend came over and drove his dads 86 iroc. well he parked it on the side of the road and a couple hours later some drunk lady side swiped it. so need less to say the insurance company totaled the car out. but they keeped it and just let it sit in there driveway. now ever since this happend iv been trying to buy it off them but they never would sell Crying or Very sad it just sat for years. but recently my brother friend has really wanted to get it back on the road, so today i went took a look at it. now there is a good amount off cosmetic problems rear quarter smashed missing paint and starting to rust, corner of tail light broken a bit, front fender is smashed along this the side of the bumper and front ground effects. now the reason it hasn't been driven is the back wheel was pushed forward and was rubbing the wheel well so i popped the wheel off and took a look from what i saw the rear end was fine and the only reason it was that far forward is the metal piece that bolts to the rear end to the body there is bent in. so i was just wonder if we unbolted that piece would the rear end move back into place with out to much problem or will we be having the spring jumping out at us. i dont know i really anything about removing the rear end to great it straightened back out. so any info or help would e great

if you do end up trying to get it runnin, be careful with the tranny...sometimes when they get hit from behind the driveshaft will get shoved into it and break stuff...i bought a tranny once thinkin it was good but it had been rear ended and in 1st the wheels went backwards

you are probably talking about the lower control arm. you can remove it without the spring flying out. in fact, rear springs are too soft to really cause any damage. you can remove and replace them without any specialized spring tools. fear not.

you may also have to replace the rear trac bar.

yep that's right. I've pulled the rear out of mine a number of times. If you need a hand sometime after work i can help you wrench on it.

To pull the rear:
jack car up and support it from the rear subframe and let the rear "dangle"
then jack the rear pumpkin up to compress the rear springs a little.
remove the bolts from the shocks
remove "panhard bar"
then you can lower the rear down with the jack and the springs will fall out
then unbolt the lower control arms and the rear is free (minus brake lines and drive shaft. but you shouldn't need to go that far for this)

GOOD LUCK DUDE!

~JAKE

ps. i'm pretty good at body work so if you want me to come over sometime and show you guys how to fix some dents just let me know.
