Looking good!
You still going with a belt driven fan? How's that work with the serp setup? _________________ 92 Camaro

| Trucks use a belt driven serpentine fan setup. The fan and the fan clutch are made for counterclockwise rotation. |

exactly right brandon.
I pulled the fan off a chevy van. But i didn't know the clutch is set up different?! i have the clutch but it doesn't spin very freely so i was going to reuse my old one.
The fan will do until i have time/money to switch to electric.

Oh, i am heading to the junk yard today to find a serp crank pulley. Questions
1) is the serp pulley from the V6 the same as the V8?
2) how in the heck do you get one of these suckers off?
thanks,

Q1. No they are not. Not even close. (edit, assuming were talking fbody here?)
Q2. With belt still attached (hopefully), crack the center bolt loose. IIRC its 9/16 or 5/8. (v6 is 19mm). Then crack the other 4 bolts loose. Remove belt. Then finish removing bolts. Usually they are stuck on and need to be wacked with a rubber mallet.
I also know the truck pully, and camaro pully are different. |

What is so different about them? are they a different diameter?
if i can't get one off a truck or van, i may be dead in the water here. |

Should be some tension to spinning the fan. It's not like a bearing, it's a clutch. Friction. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I "think" I may have a crank pully off a 02 express van.
v6 fbody to v8 fbody is bolt pattern and size.
now since your latest post makes me think 4.3 to 305/350. They may be the same. |

ok so the swap itself went fairly painless. although now i have a problem.
the crank pulley is offset towards the engine by 3/8 of an inch! it is not in the same plane as the rest of the pulleys so i'm super confused as to why? the pulley is the same size as my old one but it needs to be shimmed out away from the engine by about 3/8s. anyone know why this may be the case?
I've checked it over a dozen times now with the same result so don't tell me to just check again

Going on a limb here, but I bet it's cause you pulled it from a suburban? I would think you would need to pull the entire setup from the donor vehicle. You just pulled the crank pulley? Maybe you should check to see if the suburban has a bigger harmonic balancer? _________________ E30

hmm... that is a thought. I'll check that. but the serp pulley and my old vbelt pulley were the same size, so does that mean that i have a smaller harmonic balancer?
to remedy this problem i have made a spacer to move the pulley out to where it will line up. Once i get the longer bolts it should work. Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone?

Spacer is fine. Just make sure the spacer fits the round center hole of the pulley nice and tight, because that center bolt in the crank needs that's support to lock down. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |
