| So I took the carb in my boat apart for a seasonal clean. Since I have been reading a bunch on holley carburetor stuff I figured I'd give it a go. Plus the boat has been needing a little extra umph. When I took the throttle plate off I had the idea. So I ground down some new screws, shaved the shaft down, and sudo knife edged the throttle plates. Looks much better and took me less than an hour. Mainly used my sanding paddle wheel on my right angle grinder and a triangle file. I shaved the screw heads down further than from the picture and I did both sides and some red threadlock too. |

| Got the boat fired up in the back yard. Without changing any settings the engine idled at 350rpm and was smooth! Looked odd to see the pulley's spinning so slow. So I bumped up the idle to 700rpm and called it done. Also cleaned out my backfire suppressor. Should be a wakeboarding machine! |

Sweeeeet! I finally got the stereo installed in mine after having it sit on the counter for 3 or 4 seasons. Hit the lake on Sunday and I'm going back out on thursday! _________________

| What engine is in yours? I'm thinking a cold air intake on mine would make a huge difference. |

| I might be scoring a TBI setup from a Mercury. That would be fun to have on the boat. Do you have a cold air intake tract on your boat? I'm thinking about doing something like that so I can get some cooler air into the engine. I bet it's sucking in some pretty warm air especially when you are sitting there for a while waiting for someone to get in the water. I was just going to put a normal contained filter housing on it (no filter) and then run the duct over by the side vents. Sounds reasonable as long as it doesn't suck up water, right? |

TBI could be a cool swap but I second the TPIish stuff.
Actually, even during the summer whenever I've popped the engine cover it doesn't "seem" that warm down there. The intake plenum on mine puts the filter over on the starboard side right near one of the intake vents anyways. I religious run the blower as well as keep the vents full open to get circulating air in there. Who knows. I wonder if they have boat dynos. |

yea, aslong as your running the blower, it doesnt get "too" hot. But if you can easly duct it for fresh air, I dont see how it would hurt.
if you go ford, go with the truck 5.4, or a 4.6s/c |

| that would be pretty sweet! Does anyone know if you can simplify the plumbing on a raw water cooled marine engine? Mine has hoses everywhere and I'd like to change the intake and play with it. |

| It decreases the obstructed area and lets more air through the carburetor. |

I am by no means a carb guy. I am learning as I go. I'm trying to help out my 650 and experimented on my 350. I do have the "How to build horsepower vol.2" by david vizard though. And since I have two motors that are undercarbed and I thought I would try it. I'll quote from his book some numbers:
Stub stack or choke horn removal +45 CFM
butterfly and shaft streamlining +35 to 50 CFM (depending on throttle bore) |
